When it’s one of those days plagued by imposter syndrome and self-doubt, it is funny to then be greeted by this. Plus, check out my colleague and I accidentally matching.

Gain time is not just about curriculum development. This is a fascinating read and certainly gives a lot of food for thought. It comes at the perfect time, as we plan for Yr7-8 and consider the implications for GCSE and A-Level.

A light blue diagram depicting the sea, with the water's surface at the top, and just below it is an outline of the Mary Rose, with the depth (12m, 40ft or 6.7 fathoms). There is a line showing the seabed, which takes a rapid dive into the vertical...

Botton line about the Biden pardon, and this doesn't make it good politics in the context of upholding rule-of-law or moral high-ground against Trumpism, but I just don't think I know a parent who wouldn't do it if they had the power.

INSET day tomorrow and it seems that the previously booked speaker has been cancelled. Instead, we have a day to discuss, plan and collaborate - couldn’t be happier. Sometimes new ideas are good but sometimes the chance to embed ideas is even better.

NPQ assignment submitted ✅ My initial conclusions: 1. It has reassured me as a HoD 2. I feel more confident as a HoD 3. I feel more confident as a teacher 4. I sympathise with students when I say “there’s no right or wrong answer” - this assignment was brutal for that very reason!

If teacher expertise is the strongest determinant of student achievement, then how we think about expertise really matters.

Some various thoughts on the masses of stuff evening from Ofsted today. In all cases, of course proof is in the eating etc. 1. Primary/special specific frameworks will be welcome
We will reform the framework to respond to what people told us. We will: make sure that the inspection process is appropriate to the school phase and type (such as primary or special school)

Cleared out my wardrobe earlier in the summer as most of my work clothes were too big. I go back on Monday and realised I barely have anything. 45 minutes in one shop and I’m good to go. Should have listened to my mum ages ago - of course M&S would have it covered.

Yup. Say it louder. If someone could tot up the waste of professional effort/time thrown into this, e.g. action taken on spurious data. It's a huge distraction from the real work of defining and securing true (substantial, sustainable) improvement through long-term input.

🧵🧵A thread of tips on effective modelling 🧵🧵 1. Chunk the model into parts, performing the I do-We do-You do for one chunk before going back to the I do-We do-You do for chunk 2. This prevents cognitive overload from having to remember a large amount of steps/content in their working memories.
