I’ve been eking out this wonderful book while on a walking holiday for 2 weeks. Needed to make it last as I can only carry one book, but it really repays slow reading. Can’t recommend it highly enough, well done @jenstout.bsky.social

Legislation introducing assisted dying has been formally adopted in France. Jurisdictions around the world are legalising choice at the end of life, responding to the will of their citizens and the harms of a blanket ban.  It's time for a safe, fair and compassionate assisted dying law in the UK.

Wall-to-wall sunshine and no midges! Picked the right few days for a bothy/camping trip to the Rough Bounds of Knoydart. Absolutely stunning, Scotland at its best! 3 Munros climbed again & 2 Corbetts anew. (But I also picked up loads of ticks, there were deer everywhere). ☀️🥾
A stone building used as a bothy surrounded by forestry. A few people are sitting and chatting outside, it’s sunny. View of mountains, a loch and distant islands from a mountain top. A view over a mountain summit with a wall running across it. Distant views of the islands of Eigg and Rum. Two women standing on a mountain top with a lochan behind and islands beyond. Sunny, blue skies.

The greatest sickness in modern life is the rise of performative cruelty. Many no longer hide their sadism but revel in it. It’s not hard to trace the root cause. The book is an empathy machine. It’s no surprise the decline in reading has been accompanied by a spike in inhumanity. It’s hand in glove
