53 years ago, hip-hop was born at a back-to-school party in the Bronx. Now, the Bronx School of Hip Hop is preparing a new generation of artists to shape what comes next. I sat down with Nas to talk about the past, present, and future of hip-hop in NYC — from the turntables to our classrooms.

For "Nebraska," Bruce wanted music that felt like "a waking dream" and a record that moved like "poetry." The 1982 acoustic LP is both, and it endures as one of his most seminal works — 44 years after its release.

This iconic artwork, titled *Christina* by renowned French photographer Sarah Moon, is a real photograph from 1990. It features Dior styling and was published in the American Annual.
Sarah Moon is a renowned French fashion photographer known for her distinctively hazy, dreamlike, and painterly aesthetic. Because her authentic analog style uses soft focus, heavy grain, and surreal lighting, it closely resembles the stylized, painterly textures that many people often associate with modern AI-generated art today.

I love when a recipe says “prep time: 10 minutes.” Ten minutes for WHO? A professional chef with eight hands? It takes me ten minutes to find the paprika. Then another five staring into the fridge hoping the ingredient I forgot to buy will spontaneously appear out of shame.

The gate of Bishamontang, Emissary Santo, Yamashina District, Kyoto City
Framed by a blazing canopy of Japanese maples (momiji), a steep stone pathway (chokushimichi) rises toward a dark wooden gate, its steps completely buried beneath a thick carpet of scarlet foliage. Slender bamboo handrails flank the stone stairs, leading the eye along a dramatic linear perspective toward the imperial messenger gate at the crest of the slope. Overhead, interlocking branches filter the light, casting a warm crimson glow over the damp stone and moss-covered embankments. The scene evokes an intimate sensory atmosphere: the crisp mountain air of a Kyoto morning, the faint scent of damp moss and aged cedar, the soft crunch of fallen leaves underfoot, and the profound, reverent hush of an ancient temple precinct.
Located at Bishamon-do Temple in the Yamashina District of Kyoto, this approach—known as the chokushimichi (Imperial Messenger Path)—is renowned for its late-autumn sando (shrine approach), where fallen leaves form an iconic momiji no jūtan (maple carpet). Originally founded in 703 AD by the monk Gyōki and re-established at its present site in 1665, Bishamon-dō is a distinguished monozeki temple (traditionally presided over by members of the imperial family or high nobility). The Chokushimon Gate at the top of the stairs was reserved for official imperial envoys, reflecting the sanctuary's esteemed lineage. The seamless integration of stone masonry, timber architecture, and natural forest contours reflects the supreme craft of Japanese zōen (landscape architecture) and monozukuri (artisanal mastery), designed to celebrate the subtle shifts of the seasonal calendar.

Everyone walks through a rain no one else can see. Carrying something no one else can open.
Photo by Sami Anas. A lone figure walks on a wet, tiled pavement, viewed from above through dark bars that frame the scene. The person, dressed in black, holds a black umbrella with a white-trimmed edge, shielding themselves from the rain. A rolling suitcase follows their stride. The dim lighting and high contrast create a moody, cinematic atmosphere, emphasizing solitude and quiet movement through the urban night.
