Very interesting post on migrants in northern France and their desperation to reach the UK. The question of “why?” still remains, though.

We should never forget the fact that David Cameron called the 2016 Brexit referendum for the sole reason of preserving Tory party unity. No other reason. Ten years on and the current economic and defence weakness of our country stems from his move and is his responsibility alone.

If you’d have asked me a decade ago to guess how many Brits were bigots/racists I’d have naively suggested between 10-15% of the voting public. How complacent was I? To realise that figure is almost a THIRD rather than a tenth nearly pushes me to despair. But then, 2/3 of people aren’t racists.

After ten years of the Conservatives’ Brexit experiment, the British public have had enough. Nigel Farage pocketed a £5 million ‘reward’ for the damage he’s caused, while the rest of us are paying for it dearly. It’s time to end the chaos and fix our broken relationship with Europe.

We damaged our relationship with the largest free market in the world, Europe. It's time to rejoin the Single Market and Customs Union, and repair our relationship with Europe.
We are geographically, tectonically part of Europe. We're not part of the United States; we're not that side of the Atlantic, we're on this side of the Atlantic.

We are now probably more friendless and more adrift as a country than we have been for three, four hundred years. Clearly, the relationship with the United States is quite different to what most of us were accustomed to in the postwar period.

And we cut ourselves off from what remains one of the most prosperous, borderless markets in the world.

Not a statesman. Not strong. Not patriotic. Not principled. Farage is a traitorous little shit who is too compromised and too desperate to please Trump, to serve the best interests of our country. He will only ever betray us because he has to see Brexit through to the bitter, broken end. (iPaper)
Farage Trump's comments 'not quite fair'

Nigel Farage distanced himself from Donald Trump yesterday, describing the US President's comments about British soldiers in Afghanistan as "not quite fair"
The Reform UK leader has called Trump a "genuine friend of the United Kingdom". This week, he said that the world would be a "better, more secure place" if America took over Greenland.
But Farage (inset) has now said that he would
"politely" object to Trump's claims that Nato troops stayed away from the front line.
Writing in a post on X, Farage said: "Donald Trump is wrong.
For 20 years our Armed Forces fought bravely alongside America's in Afghanistan."
Speaking in Davos, he added: "We stayed by America for the whole 20 years, we proportionately spent the
same money, we lost the same number of lives as America, pro-rata.
The same applies to Denmark... so it is not quite fair."
The Liberal Democrat leader, Sir Ed Davey, said: " I question the character of British politicians who've been supporting Donald Trump.
"I think Nigel Farage's character is on the line, along with Donald Trump's."
