Good point. Hardly surprising that some in the EU would be wary of UK applying to join again unless, as you say there’s overwhelming support. That’s why it’s crucial that Brexit/EU joining is central to the next GE.

Brexit is very firmly on the shoulders of the Tories and this needs to be reiterated constantly. The next GE will have Brexit firmly in the focus of progressive parties so let’s see Badenoch try and defend it.

As stupid and hypocritical as their supporters. Like attracts like. If polls are to be believed up to 30% stupid and/or hypocritical.

One has to question the motives and paymasters of separatists at this particular moment. They’re certainly playing Putin’s game.

Her sheer arrogance will be her, and the Tory party’s downfall. WOOP 🙌

A smorgasdump. Deluded and contemptible, it’s not their fault they got hammered in 2024 it’s the voters fault. Ugh!

Maybe I’m reading too much into this clip but looking at her eyes moving as she’s talking and I seriously doubt her sincerity.

What concerns me is that the same sleight of hand that brought us Brexit might bring us ECHRexit. Voters ignorance of values could sleepwalk us into this disaster unless we start highlighting how the convention protects us all in many and differing ways.

No longer the party of moderate conservativism or of “sound” finance, nor of law and order. These are now historical myths to be consigned to the bin. Modern conservatism stands for ruined economy, overcrowded prisons and splendid isolation from the democratic world. So be it, but not in govt.

Having said what I did, this article only goes to reiterate that Join EU groups MUST be clear and concise as to the value and benefits of being in the bloc and why staying out is not in anyone’s best interests.

And we wonder why we’re hearing that some in the EU are wary of trusting the UK? This is nothing other than Tory party ideological nonsense! They brought us Brexit and they’re damn well going to make us love it, even if it’s hurting our economy. Absolute trash!

Maybe I’ve a downer on the public but arguments seem to boil down to 3 short words eg space/hands/face. Anything more detailed risks getting lost in the ether. Excuse my negativity but I’ve not had 2 cups of strong coffee yet!

Jeff Scroggie @jeffscroggie.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
That’s true but I think arguments can be overly complicated and, I regret to say the public’s understanding of being a member of EU wasn’t understood in 2016 that’s we ended up with Brexit. I’m not convinced the public have a better comprehension of EU than they did back then.

Jeff Scroggie @jeffscroggie.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The arguments for joining EU need to be clear, concise and list the benefits of membership in relation to people’s lives. Eg savings to household bills for groceries etc. a simplified cost/benefit analysis needs to be drawn up so the public fully understand the value of membership.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cq... For the avoidance of doubt, diesel prices are high because of supply restrictions put in by President Trump whose big supporter is Nigel Farage.

We know we won’t get the sweetheart deal we had in 2016, but we’re a considerably poorer country now so maybe any deal could be a good one, after all.

His positivity is the antidote to the nastiness and negativity of the RW although, on its own shouldn’t be enough for the public. Laying out a strategy for the country is good but has to be followed up with short/term solutions. Not least of which is EU membership/closer ties.

Not to mention damage to our international standing. We held an envied position prior to Brexit; gateway both to inward investment from existing and emerging economies and bridge from Europe to the English speaking world. Diplomatically crucial too. All gone, we’re a lone voice in wilderness now.

All they all under some kind of MAGA hypnosis or something? Now even Tuginghat’s fallen under the spell. They’re off their heads but perhaps a good thumping at the next GE will bring them back to reality.

How’s he not breaking any laws? At the very least the Commons speaker needs to have a fireside chat with Farage and warn him about his behaviour. JHC he’s an irritating little sh1t!

when they get punished at the next election maybe they’ll have a good look at themselves and decide that being nasty wasn’t a vote winner.

Waste of an emotion Sarah, they only deserve being disregarded and ignored. As I’m ever hopeful the voting public will view them next election.

Yes I think the progressive parties are onto a winner for the next GE. Throwing peoples rights away and a harder Brexit are sure-fire vote losers. Wonder where the hard right are getting their polling data from?

Very interesting post on migrants in northern France and their desperation to reach the UK. The question of “why?” still remains, though.

I can only speak for myself (obvs) but I really find whingers tiresome. And I dare to suggest that I’m not alone in the UK who feels similarly. Still it’s a free country for those who wish to be irritating to fill their boots.

And another aspect of (repeated) UK govt policy, reduction in overseas aid, never seems to get any mention when it comes to immigration. Surely poverty plays a significant role too? Or am I missing something?
000
Jeff Scroggie @jeffscroggie.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I don’t know why we need to make old arguments again about Brexit. IMO politicians need to frame the debate as we’ve had Brexit, not only didn’t it work, it harmed our country and economy so let’s try something different. That’s not so hard is it?

Jeff Scroggie @jeffscroggie.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I spent many years in the shipping industry and it shocks me still that, for an island nation, the general public know absolutely nothing about how their clothes, food etc gets to them or how we export our goods overseas. One of the many reasons “ignorance” was the main reason behind the Brexit vote
0152
Jeff Scroggie @jeffscroggie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
It’s her raised eyebrow and look in her eyes that makes her so condescending. But she seems to be learning that if the Tories stick rigidly to their pro Brexit stance they’ll be mullahed at the next GE. We want Brexit but we want to cherry pick our relationship with EU is her stance it seems?

What’s Russian for “whoever’s paying him”?
050
Jeff Scroggie @jeffscroggie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
We should never forget the fact that David Cameron called the 2016 Brexit referendum for the sole reason of preserving Tory party unity. No other reason. Ten years on and the current economic and defence weakness of our country stems from his move and is his responsibility alone.

Jeff Scroggie @jeffscroggie.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

There’ll come an event, or a point in the near future where thuggish behaviour starts to blur the lines with RW desire to leave the ECHR and then, and only then will Badenoch have to make a clear statement on where she stands. I’m Thinking on the right to life v criminal acts on RNLI & boats.
