Trump's suit appears to be part of Jos. A. Bank's Traveler line. The suit is listed as having been made abroad using a wool-polyester-spandex blend. The company describes it as having the "ultimate stretch" and was designed to minimize body odor.
Trump wearing a blue suit on stage. He is flashing his jacket open, such that you can see the interior labels. One label says Jos. A. Bank. A product shot from Jos. A. Bank's website. This is from the Traveler line. It appears to match the label in Trump's suit. A photo from the product page touts that the suit is made from a new "fabric technology" that has "ultimate stretch performance" and "anti-microbial/ reduce moisture and odor" qualities. There is a photo of a man wearing the suit. From the product page: "Product Details & Care
Stay comfortable and confident with this Traveler® Collection suit separates jacket, powered by innovative 37.5 © technology. I'm reading Reality Is Not What It Seems (by Carlo Rovelli) when I realized that Einstein literally means One Stone. It's right there, plainly written, but until recently it was just a sound.

I was practicing the Dutch "f" sound (sort of half way between an English f and an English v) when that happened.

Because I'm living in the Netherlands and immersed in Dutch, I keep having these little epiphanies about the origin and meanings of family names or English words. The first one, about 5 years ago, was "folk and volk are the same word." Seems obvious, right?

A version of the "Aella's birthday gangbang" Sankey diagram but it's about Bluesky posters thinking about posting Sankey diagram jokes, leading from "thought about Sankey diagram joke" through various iterations of workshopping and writing the joke (with various dead ends due to forgetting about it, losing interest, etc). Eventually at the end the joke is finally posted; some posters do numbers with it, some don't, some came in a fluffer

I feel you! I was an AI skeptic a year ago. Now I'm making a budget for API usage for my family. I still follow skeptics here and in the fediverse. There are real hazards and externalities, but "does it work" is answered "yes" to my satisfaction.

RETVRN to 1990s prices. I paid $3500 for my PowerMac 7200 in 1995, and about $10k for a minimally configured SparcStation 3 the same year. Now do the inflation conversion.

Nobody warns you how tremendously disconcerting going back to an American restaurant is after living anywhere else long term. - them walking off with your credit card & no tap to pay - the huge portions and sodium - the weird attentiveness for tips - being IDed over 30 - flags everywhere

I pointed out that my (non-apple) watch doesn't work to pay if I take it off, and then I learned the magic words: Apple Pay. After that he held out the terminal for me to tap.

I had a moment at an In-N-Out Burger Driver through, where I said I would pay with a card and then we both just waited. I was waiting for him to hold out the tap-to-pay and he was waiting for me to hand him my card.

One thing I've found in this entire discussion is that, even for the average person, this isn't about fairness. It's about making sure that people see trans women as men. Even the most well meaning allies see us as men. The science doesn't matter, because to them, women's sports is for women. 1/

My own C coding style was learned reading the Linux kernel, and other GPL works. My use of macros, or structure prototypes, for example, will look like lines copied from kernel source code even though I am writing them from memory.

John Blair @jdblair.org · 27/07/2026
There is a lot of writing and commentary by experts about this if you look. The summary is, yes, you can copy works into a new work, and there is no bright line saying how many lines have to appear. How many songs have the same chord sequences? How many stories use the same plot structure?

Is an LLM a transformative work? I think yes, but this hasn't yet been decided by either litigation or legislation.

John Blair @jdblair.org · 27/07/2026
Copyleft isn't a magic spell, it's just a license enforced using copyright law. Fair use doctrine says you can create a transformative work from any source and the new work is not encumbered by the original copyright. Caveat: IANAL, just a developer who has read a lot about software licensing.

Counter-argument: the model is a transformative work and is fair use.

Engaging with this argument is a trap. Cutting aid was illegal, and a bad policy decision. The semantics of responsibility are a distraction.

There's probably a couple of people I'd put under a steamroller, but I won't say who they are, otherwise when they see a steamroller coming their way they'll be on full alert. And steamrollers don't go very fast..."
