Colleges teach the most valuable career skills when they don’t stick narrowly to preprofessional education
Parents and policymakers want job security for graduates, but in the AI and automation era, careers may depend as much on curiosity and initiative as on credentials.

t's raining galls! Galls of the mealy gall wasp are falling out of the southern live oaks all over Houston. As you can see, a lot of them are damaged, as though something tried to eat the larva in the center chamber.

For the first time, renewable energy has OVERTAKEN coal in global electricity production!! BAD NEWS for the fossil fuel industry, BRILLIANT news for the planet! 🌍
Renewables produced more electricity than coal for the first time on record in the first half of 2025. Line graph compares global generation in TWh from Jan-Jun of each year, from 2019 to 2025. Renewables has steadily increased and now overtaken coal in 2025.

I used to think being a scientist meant chasing papers, grants, and tenure. Then I burned out. With the ugliest panic attack. Now I know the real impact includes much more than that. There’s more than one way to matter. You can bridge science with the world. #SciComm 🧪
Two pie charts titled "Impact as a Scientist." The top chart, labeled "What I thought it meant," shows three large segments representing "Papers," "Grants," and "Tenureship." The bottom chart, labeled "What I learned it meant," is divided into ten equal segments including "Papers," "Grants," "Tenureship," "Outreach," "Education," "Policy," "Public Trust," "Conservation," "Innovation," and "Communication." The charts contrast traditional academic metrics with broader forms of impact. The graphic includes the name "Silvia Pineda-Munoz, PhD" and the Climate Ages logo.
