Only a very few plant species get water and nutrients this way.

Based on what we know about plant physiology, the mites likely increased auxin concentration on the abaxial side of the leaf to make it curl.

I don’t think you could funding for this rn, with words like “women” and “sex” in the proposal.

The problem with one-size-fits-all medicine: Biological sex and the aging immune system
Aging has effects on the immune system that are similar in men and women, but also reshapes their immune systems in unique, sex-specific ways, however these differences are rarely taken into…

Colleges teach the most valuable career skills when they don’t stick narrowly to preprofessional education
Parents and policymakers want job security for graduates, but in the AI and automation era, careers may depend as much on curiosity and initiative as on credentials.

t's raining galls! Galls of the mealy gall wasp are falling out of the southern live oaks all over Houston. As you can see, a lot of them are damaged, as though something tried to eat the larva in the center chamber.

Jack Schultz @jcschultz.bsky.social · 28/10/2025
I don't think so. In common use "survey" implies or means that more than one individual participated. A "questionnaire" can be given to one or more individuals, but you can only "interview" one person at a time. These are tools that can be used to create a survey.

This would be great, and the science is compelling, but allowing leaves to accumulate and rot on a lawn will kill the grass. This approach really should be paired with alternatives to the usual lawn.

For the first time, renewable energy has OVERTAKEN coal in global electricity production!! BAD NEWS for the fossil fuel industry, BRILLIANT news for the planet! 🌍
Renewables produced more electricity than coal for the first time on record in the first half of 2025. Line graph compares global generation in TWh from Jan-Jun of each year, from 2019 to 2025. Renewables has steadily increased and now overtaken coal in 2025.

The quality and predatory nature of MDPI journals differs widely among them. I have found several to be quite reliable and valuable for getting to the audience I seek.

When writing science (publications, education) there are 3 lines of evidence that what is being said is likely to be true: original data and already-published results. Each statement in a manuscript must have one or the other to back it up. I guess the authors are afraid they won't be believed

The knot on the petiole is a gall formed by an aphid, most likely Pemphigus spyrothecae. The aphid altered the expression of the tree's genes to get it to make this 'home' for it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pemphig...
