A white marble statue of the English philosopher and statesman Sir Francis Bacon seated in an armchair in the ante-chapel of Trinity College, Cambridge; the sculptor was Henry Weekes (ALT for more details) #SculptureSaturday #SaturdayStatue #StatueSaturday
A white marble statue of the English philosopher and statesman Sir Francis Bacon seated in an armchair in the Ante-Chapel of Trinity College, Cambridge; the figure has his head leaning against his left hand, with his left elbow resting on the arm of the chair and his facial expression appears thoughtful. His right arm is resting on the arm rest. He is dressed in 17th-century period clothing, which includes a detailed ruff collar around his neck, a doublet and breeches, stockings and shoes adorned with decorative rosettes. A heavy cloak draped over his shoulders spills down around the seat. The sculpture stands on a circular marble base that features a Latin inscription. Behind the statue is a background of dark carved wooden wall paneling and to the left and right there are several commemorative brass and stone plaques mounted onto the wood and the wall above.
