A very pleasing find after work in Norwich today, & very similar to the scene found elsewhere by @andrew-jewels.bsky.social recently. I noticed a small Oak pocked with yellow, which indicates Phylloxera glabra presence. Underneath were many larva and one adult Oak Scymnus ladybird, Scymnus auritus.
A bunch of Oak leaves in dappled sunlight. Although green they are extensively speckled with yellow.Underside of an Oak leaf held between finger and thumb. There are lots of yellow and orange very small organisms distributed across the leaf, with one spiky white larva.A close up of an Oak Scymnus ladybird larva, an oval shape coated in thick triangular white spines. It is feeding on the Phylloxera, small orangey-yellow ovals. An adult Oak ladybird, a very small ladybird, mostly black but with an orangey-brown tip to the tail and also on the front of the head. It is on the underside of an Oak leaf being held between finger and thumb.

Forthcoming NNNS event on Sat 9th May 2026. In a tweak to the original plan, Holkham warden Andy Bloomfield will be accompanying us and hopefully we will access a few bits not usually open to the public. As a result we will not be going as far as Gun Hill. Note that the car park is pay & display.
A poster advertising an NNNS walk at Holkham on 9th May 2026

Holkham walk towards the dunes led by Andy Bloomfield (Senior Warden, Holkham Nature Reserve), Tim Hodge (Norfolk's hoverfly county recorder) & Nick Owens (author of Bees of Norfolk).
Meet at 10.30. The guided element is scheduled to finish around, although some may choose to stay later.
Description (NOTE THAT THIS HAS CHANGED FROM THE ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION IN NATTERJACK).
Andy Bloomfield, the Senior Warden at Holkham Nature Reserve, has kindly offered to accompany us and take us into some of the private parts of the Estate, so we are widening our focus to include wildlife in general. This does mean that we will probably no longer get as far as Gun Hill!
Where and Parking
Meet by the gate at the seaward end of Lady Anne’s Drive (The Lookout café end) TF8910144753. The drive is pay-and-display (the current cost for 4 hours is £7.50) - there is a possibility of some discount for the parking so please check with us at the meeting point first, if possible.
Lunch
Bring lunch or purchase at the Lookout café (they sometimes run out on busy days). There are also toilets at the Lookout café.
