Oh, because it’s a contract, and that’s the most important thing? Are we in the Lochner Era again?

Yeah, it’s one of the few thongs where everyone agrees on the problem but they don’t agree on the solution. And I would rather keep changing than do permanent DST, personally.

You can finally get your ducks in a row (and column). Type “matrix” in any Desmos graphing tool to get started. Learn more: help.desmos.com/hc/en-us/art... #iteachmath #mathsky #linearalgebra #matrices

I’m gonna go with wealth inequality. It doesn’t matter how you are personally doing when you see the top and their impunity. (And the seeing is a key part, not just the fact of it.)

The thing about that discourse is, and I feel like I’m channeling @jamellebouie.net here, what is the mechanism through which I would have heard this song?

Nancy’s at school…. Her teacher asks her a math problem: if Nancy had three cupcakes, and Sluggo asked her for one, how many would she have left? Nancy’s reply is “three.”

The thing about a transplant is that it can be rejected by the host body if it doesn’t fit.

I don’t think taking turns is important (although learning how to take turns is a good reason to play the, with kids). Some games (maybe the best ones?) have simultaneous play

Haha. I suppose I could say tabletop games as an overarching category.

When at the beginning of this year I listed how many board games I had, the students were incredulous until they realized I count card games as board games.

If the only thing you have to note about the rising tide of fascism is that we have to let it rise far enough to be over someone else's head in order to stop it, I don't think your strategy is particularly good.

Except that one of his promises was that he wouldn’t do that, because they do that with the library budget every year. And still came away with less than last year (as a percentage).

Switching from a bottom/less than group to a top/greater than group is inherently misleading. It should all be deciles or similarly shaped/directioned groups.

James Cleveland-Tran @jclevelandtran.com · 08/09/2026
Yeah, LLMs are inherently broken in this way because they work by associations. Efforts to make them more accurate are done by laying structures on top of that unstable foundation. Coding allows for more structures to improve outputs, but doesn't change the fundamental flaws.

James Cleveland-Tran @jclevelandtran.com · 08/09/2026
Because code needs to compile and complete a function, it’s easier to self-check than other content, which is why it’s a better tool in that domain.

It seems most mapping websites use Mercator, or a variant (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Mercator_…), which does make some sense given the original purpose of Mercator was to aid navigation, I suppose.

James Cleveland-Tran @jclevelandtran.com · 05/09/2026
Maybe, but how common is Mercator, really? I haven’t seen one in a long time, feels like.

Well, it’s saying less than 10% of passengers are Black, not that less than 10% of Black folks use air travel. So it is skewed (because it’s not ~14%), but not as skewed.

At least that’s consistent with the very first op-ed guy:
From the Wikipedia page for Op-Eds:

When Swope took over as main editor in 1920, he opted to
designate a page from editorial staff as "a catchall for book reviews,
society boilerplate, and obituaries" Swope explained:

"It occurred to me that nothing is more interesting than
opinion when opinion is interesting, so I devised a method
of cleaning off the page opposite the editorial, which
became the most important in America ... and thereon I
decided to print opinions, ignoring facts."

A make-your-own mosaic tray I saw in Flying Tiger Copenhagen. The rectangular tray comes with square tiles of various colors you can put in.A "Which One Doesn't Belong" in the Nobel Prize museum in Stockholm. The top left is an alligator (or crocodile, I dunno), the top right is a goose, the bottom left is a fish, the bottom right is a gorilla. It's actually a WODB, not just me seeing one - the placard says so, including asking the children to find as many different answers as they can.The other WODB from the Nobel Prize museum in Stockholm. Top left is a cobra, top right a lion, bottom left a penguin, bottom right a rhino.A public musical instrument in Freetown Christiania. It is a wood and glass structure with a pitched roof. Inside are various strings made of metal. There are three big yellow arrows hanging from the roof and pointing down. They are proximity sensors - as you move your hand closer to each, some of the strings inside vibrate faster, creating different notes.
