The Rhine is at an exceptional low – a 1-in-63-year event. Worryingly, this is a pattern: 2018, 2022 and today all rank in the top-10 lowest discharges measured at Lobith since 1901. Only November 1947 saw less water. However, modern water demand is vastly higher than it was in the winter of 1947.

Damning NSW auditor general’s report finds $100m scheme has not delivered a single home or lot since devastating 2022 floods * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast Over the next month, Liam Bolitho and Rachel Rouse will remove decking, disconnect their electricity and air conditioners and clear the space underneath their North Lismore home. In July, contractors will chainsaw the couple’s home of 10 years in half and load it into trucks. Then they’ll take the house – among more than 4,000 assessed as uninhabitable after 2022’s devastating floods – to a plot of land above the flood level. Continue reading...

Mini Shai-Hulud is a true worm: after stealing credentials from one CI/CD pipeline, it enumerates every package that maintainer controls and publishes infected versions of each. The 2.3 MB obfuscated payload reads GitHub Actions runner process memory to extract every secret, harvests credentials from over 100 file paths spanning cloud providers, cryptocurrency wallets, AI tools, and messaging apps, and installs persistence hooks in Claude Code, VS Code, and OS-level services that survive reboots. Stolen data is encrypted and exfiltrated through the Session Protocol CDN and GitHub's own GraphQL API, where dead-drop commits are authored as claude@users.noreply.github.com and disguised with Dependabot-style branch names drawn from Frank Herbert's Dune universe.

The map displays the total number of flood events extracted by the LLM-based pipeline aggregated per grid cell. The data are visualized using a Robinson projection, with event counts represented by a logarithmic color scale. Red points indicate the spatial centroids of reference flood events from the GDACS database.
