The main project of the US now is a line-item vindication of the most histrionic and paranoid stuff ever said by Jello Biafra

Except the existing law is not retroactive. It adds new requirements, and makes non-compliance a crime, but that is also how a new property tax works.

James Cape @jca.pe · 03/10/2026
It's not discriminatory, and it's no more or less constitutional than requiring gun owners maintain a permit for guns they may have purchased out of state. Except now everybody has more forms, when all we wanted was to track sex offenders.
000
James Cape @jca.pe · 03/10/2026
Sure, so you have a standard "declaration of criminal history" form that everyone who interacts with the government gets to fill out: check the box if you've been convicted of any crimes the government isn't aware of whenever you change your address, and it's illegal to have it out of date.

So then you read the part where the USSC explicitly rejected that argument, and specifically rejected it _in a beat-for-beat identical case_. You can argue that it _shouldn't_ be constitutional, but that's not the same thing.

They took the anthropic _principle_ and started applying it to everything: white supremacy, economic inequality, imperialism, etc. Because they _do_ exist they necessarily _must_ exist, etc. Fundamentally the same sort of intellectual buffoonery behind social darwinism.

Coming around to the idea that the biggest priority for Americans interested in keeping liberal democracy alive for the next several decades is whole scale reform of the Supreme Court and the judiciary. We can't afford to have Reconstruction 2.0 hampered by the SCOTUS like Reconstruction 1.0 was.

Panel 2: Batman full face, scowling with gritted teeth. "--I'll make you regret it."

@shannimcg.bsky.social had this great insight that the "Woke 1.0" discourse is a product of the "polarization" meta-narrative. Essentially, since we had radical, crazy, dangerous, ideas/movements from the right (MAGA, Jan 6, anti-CRT/DEI), there must have been equivalents on the left. They weren't.

Like, the only reason the rest of the coalition puts up with our (assuming based on profile) cis white liberal nonsense is because they expect us to have their back when the chips are down. If we demonstrate conclusively that isn't the case, then why do we expect them to just accept that? 2/2

What is Talarico responsible for? It seems like he (and his supporters) thought that other people are sacrifice-pawns in a game of 5D chess, and also that the rest of the board would forgive that. Except most of the rest of the board are pawns. 1/2

it would shock the average person how many anti-trans activists had a partner or child who came out as trans and, rather than being supportive, they obsessively worked to "purge" transness from their lives (as well as society)...

Honestly, I'd say the most disastrous decisions of Obama and Biden were not really holding anyone accountable for crimes committed under the previous administration. Obama wanted to "turn the page" on Iraq and the financial meltdown while Biden never put any urgency behind the January 6th cases

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.
The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.
