I’m hoping it’s back up soon. I’m trying to finish a grant application for a food pantry and need access to this data. Do you know how long it’s been down?

Yes, I watched it a few years ago, and this scene was jaw-dropping. I think of it every time I hear Dean Cain express an opinion. (I still love this show, though)

I've really been loving The Onion in general, and especially the print edition. Something made by humans, that values human creativity over artificial efficiency is such a delight. Capitalism tells us to always produce more, but The Onion is saying, 'what if we produced something better?'

There are no red states, no blue states, only purple, from Idaho fuchsia to Vermont violet. And in every state there are children, non-citizens, and prisoners who can't vote. In every state where one candidate won, a bunch of people voted for the other candidate. And so forth.

This is worth 3 minutes of your time. No one wants to eat at a restaurant that only serves bland chicken. (It’s not about chicken, or restaurants, tho)

Fairhope Public Library (along with their board, city council, and residents) really is setting an example for how to respond to threats and baseless allegations. Not every library can risk state funding, so it’s extra important that those that can survive that cut stand firm.

Why even have a brain, any ideas, any ability to express them, any kind of communication with other people, any desire to solve problems or invent anything, any reason to learn, any use for your eyes or your heart, or any reason to teach or create
From NYT article about the increasing use of AI in the classroom: “Writing is one of the most challenging tasks for students, which is why it is so tempting for some to ask A.I. to do it for them. In turn, A.I. can be useful for teachers who would like to assign more writing, but are limited in their time to grade it.”

Small libraries in tiny towns are more likely to depend on federal funding (usually funneled through the state) for their basic book and technology budgets. So there might still be an open building, there won’t be much else.

Hi, I worked at a public library for 14 years and served on a statewide committee that reviewed grant applications for federal funds. Cutting IMLS will have the biggest impact on small rural libraries. They generally can barely have a building and (massively underpaid) staff with local funds.
