I never killed anyone, but I have known MANY who have, and multiple other various ex-cons in my time. It's the system. Always has been. And as long as we keep funding these private prisons and allowing public servants to profit off their stocks, it always will be the system.

As a former prisoner who bucked the 87% recidivism trend by going to university upon release, I would love to see your statistical analysis, data sets and empirical research on what you just said and how well that's doing. By the way, the national average recidivism rate in the USA is 67%. 🤷

If we revealed how many people in positions of power held stock in these private prison corps, I thing that the case for indicting public servants for conflicts of interest would go through the roof so fast that it would be difficult for the system to recover as it is currently established.

Making matters worse, those prisons routinely bring their prisoners up on more charges to keep them incarcerated instead of de-escalating or rehabilitating them. That way they maintain their profits because getting in trouble while in prison eliminates 'good time served.'

Geo Group, CCA and other private prison corporations' profits have soared since Trump took office, not because there are more criminals, but because the government pays large sums each year for each prisoner those corps enslave and imprison.

Texas has legalized marijuana, but when the private prisons started to empty out, they reversed course so they would not get sued for breaking their contracts with private prison corporations. Those corps all depend upon a steady stream of freshly convicted people to maintain profits.
