On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast. The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me. But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

On Nov. 16, a mental health counselor recorded in Kamilla’s medical records that her mother reported the girl had lost her appetite after being “served food that contained worms.”

A week later, the couple said, children were told to gather in the gym for what they believed would be a Thanksgiving celebration. Excitement spread as families saw tables set with turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, they said. The children waited expectantly. But when a parent asked when the celebration would begin, Oksana said, staff told them the holiday meal was for employees, not detainees.

The children, she said, watched despondently as the feast was packed away.

I love this analytical take on video game categorization from Antoine Mayerowitz and Julie Belzanne: hushcrasher.substack.com/p/taxonomy-o... Instead of trying to vibe-intuit the definition of an "indie" game, the authors analyzed the data from the perspective of game size and credits length

Just finished the OG God of War tonight and I’m kinda shocked by how little of the things I remember loving from that game were from things later in the series. I think it’s fun to revisit as to see the series humble beginnings but outside of that I found myself just wishing I was playing 2 or 3

So a few nights ago I rolled credits on Animal Well and was very happy with my short time with it. I was then told there’s tons more layers, items, and puzzles to it and I just lost interest? I loved exploring post game stuff in the past but as I get older and busier I tend to stop when credits roll
