I had a wonderful evening at Bar Trash at the Genesis cinema watching the extremely enjoyable X the Unknown again. More than that it was brilliant to meet the absolutely delightful @hiddenbonusnoise.bsky.social in real life for the first time.

I occasionally see videos on Instagram of those restaurants where they pour out boiled seafood from a bag directly onto a table in a big pile and it is utterly fucking disgusting.

There is so much to be annoyed at England for but the wretched combination of bar staff's inability to pull pints and them having no beer mats might well be the worst.

Picked a #BootlegFriday movie that my Dad got from the dodgy lad in work on VHS, who went on to bootleg DVDs before pirate downloading/streaming came in & ruined the enterprise named "Shay's Bag" There was only a handful of VHS in my house growing up, so we had to like it

I remember paying £8 for a pint of Guinnness in there. That’s punts, so before the Euro… so €10.15 for a pint in the year 2000.

This kind of bullshit from the Minister serves two purposes. Appealing to scumbag racists and the mortification of our accommodations crisis being seen outside of Ireland. Truly this might be the worst fucking government we have ever had.

Just checked the Criterion Channel there. Even with a VPN it is glitchy as fuck. This seems like such a spectacular own goal, I know so many people outside the US that had it. They are literally throwing away money. Imagine being by some distance the best streaming service and doing this. Madness.

I know the FAI (and Govt) have left the players hanging. But if the players have their meeting tomorrow and, even after this, decide to play the fixture, they can all get fucked. There is NO excuse.

For the Criterion Current, I wrote about the 1948–1951 trilogy of U.K. anthology movies based on W. Somerset Maugham short stories: QUARTET, TRIO and ENCORE. All three are on the Criterion Channel. I enjoyed them so much I spent all summer reading Maugham stories. www.criterion.com/current/post...

DVDs aren't low-tech. They're just things you can actually own, that won't disappear overnight, that don't require a monthly subscription, that won't suddenly get reedited, that won't start putting adverts in the middle and that won't sell your data to the worst people in the world.

Liv Ullmann looks directly at the camera in this portrait; she's wearing a black turtleneck and a golden brown coat. She is standing next to tree branches with similarly gold-brown leaves.

My religious teacher had us reading Jimmy Boyle's A Sense of Freedom, regarding his rehabilitation. We asked could he give a talk to the class. A few weeks later he came over to our school and in assembly told us all about the excrement covered walls of cells and involvement in murders lol.

I just watched the last episode of this. In bits. One of the very greatest documentary achievements. Absolutely staggering, profound, moving yet not a hagiography of Apted. The cumulative effect of it on both the subjects and the director and the interactions from it is what makes it brilliant.

Why is the FAI worried about an unknown, likely exaggerated, punishment from UEFA for doing the right thing and yet the Israeli FA can throw out lies, insults and threats with no consequences? It is unthinkable that Ireland fulfils these games, the FAI must boycott, it's not too late #StopTheGames

Lots of people mentioning Plex, but I’d also like to suggest getting a library card. Here in Ireland, borrowers have access to the entire national library service’s DVD collection, free of charge. Depending on your local authority, you may also get access to a streaming app (we get Kanopy here).
