Thread documenting the 2026 mushroom season in our local park, showing the variety of what's growing there. Last year we saw 20 different types. Here are the first four....

dryad's saddle - flat fungus growth sticking out of a horse chestnut tree in the park. three discs about the size of a dinner plate, cream / brown colour with darker marks on. quite hard to touch.

a different type of bracket fungus. a single piece with a cream-coloured crust and purply top. growing at the bottom of a tree.

tiny orange spheres growing out of the cracks of a fallen tree. maybe some kind of puffball?

flat head of a common inkcap growing out of a log. looks like it has been nibbled or knocked. other younger ones alongside.

Another four brown treasures in the park. Despite the dry days, September has been good for #FungiFinds.

cluster of hen of the woods at the bottom of a tree in the park. like flat mini pancakes - brown and cream - with wavy edges.

four shaggy parasol mushrooms growing on the ground.

tiny spindly mushroom - not sure of the ID, growing in grass. the grass is taller than the mushroom. very thin stalk, white cap. tiny.

Beautiful cluster of poplar fieldcap growing out of the end of a poplar tree trunk on its side, dead, lying on the ground.

I think the first one here is Giant Polypore (Meripilus giganteus), which has thicker brackets than Hen of the Woods.

Whatever you think of the politics or the personalities, the facts stand for themselves. Holborn and St Pancras constituency has been a Labour safe seat since its creation in 1983 and Greens got double the amount of votes this time than the 2024 election on a much lower voter turnout.

Currently reading William Andrews’ new book on Masao Adachi, a brilliantly researched work on a director who has been regularly misunderstood and misrepresented by Westerners. Loving it so far. Will keep you posted…

Wow, that is sinister. Meta "AI" just sent me a q&a style message based on various topics I guess I must have posted about on Facebook sometime but I've never asked about, more like getting info from my posts (i.e. what is of Yusaku Matsuda's acting style, what is the average size of myxomycetes).

I get the general idea of what the slogan is trying to say, but its crass and incendiary, and I think is going to lose a lot of the good will that has been building up with the party over the past year.
