This just made me realize I have been making ranch oyster crackers all these years like a fool when I could have been using white cheddar cheez-itz for the cracker base

Countdown is the first comic where it really hit home for me that you can have all the elements of something I should like on paper, all these characters getting into deep Kirby elements of the universe, but the execution can be so flat to even actively make me like things that I like a little less

"I'm computer illiterate" is such a triggering phrase! Also just the wild amount of ageism from older patrons who think a lack of computer skills is universal if you're over a certain age. Like sir, that's a you thing, my Grandma could run circles around me on social media and in a word processor.

Again this demand that gender be determined not at birth or by self definition or cultural upbringing but by genetic testing is a major and radical demand for a new standard never, ever practiced by any culture in the history of the planet Earth.

Same energy
Of course we’re concerned, Senator.

That’s why we’re monitoring the situation.

[Senator] Monitor the fact that if Godzilla heads…

What is it? You just…

And I am telling you,

We have a problem!

Senator

that Kong doesn’t leave Hollow Earth.

Which is why Godzilla has no reason to retaliate.

It's really a society-shaping phenomenon too, there's a crowd that treats even mild social shame like oppression and then votes for people who validate their bad behavior, instead of just being like "oh my bad, that actually was kinda racist!" or "sorry I misgendered you!" and trying to do better

Also the establishment in this country has been calling Jews themselves antisemitic if they don't toe the line since this all started, without any thought to how that plays when they come crawling back to those same Jews for votes against someone else they're calling antisemitic for the same thing

Always a fun time on the ol reference desk with some of these. Sometimes the conversation will start out like any other and only slowly reveal the paranoia, gang stalking fears, etc, and that's a tough one to extricate yourself from while staying respectful and empathetic.

Sealab worked while using secondhand animation (although it had to supplement that a lot) but like, that was also a particular creative vision that happened to be working within budget constraints. And the creative vision part is what matters, not the money-saving part...

How did they beef it so hard with the third Equalizer movie? Two ingredients for this to work: Denzel is the most charming man in the world whose attention is like the life-giving sun, and he's also a crazy murdering avatar of reassuring your dad about his virility. But here he's sad murder dad.

There's a ROBUST infrastructure in place to perpetuate that fake reality. City subreddits that are completely taken over as right wing echo chambers by people who clearly don't live there. Court TV, a perspective-warping firehose making people think crime is at an all-time high (COPS before that)...

I think it goes a way towards explaining the conservative fetish for trying to appear to be oppressed minorities fighting back themselves, even though they have to invent the oppression that isn't happening. Like it's a way to try to fit such a thing's existence into their conceptual box.

Their behavior is so dominated by what other men might think, and then non-conformists short circuit their brains - the idea that someone else can just *do* that, just *not care* what "the guys" might think.

It's weird that the difference between me before getting into baseball this year and me now is watching like, two games a month. For a sport where they play approximately a thousand games per team per week I thought it would be more of a commitment?
