It sucks to know things don't have to be this bad. It sucks to see things others fail to recognize. Most of the pain we are all feeling doesn't have to be. We've instead accepted it. We've accepted it and blamed each other instead of blaming the people making the decisions that cause it to suck.

I didn’t know about the earliest origin of Memorial Day until I was a grown-ass man —because some folks didn’t want us to. 2021: Memorial Day organizers cut the mic of retired Lt Col Kemter as he discussed how formerly enslaved Americans exhumed remains of soldiers to give them proper burials. 🧵

The John Roberts Court has done more to reduce the political power of poor people and Black people while enlarging the voting rights of rich people and corporations than has any court since Roger Taney was Chief Justice in the 1800s. I opposed his nomination in 2005, and I stand by that.

This is correct. There is no future of democratic self government in the US with an unreformed Supreme Court. The Court is riddled with corruption and abuses of power and rooting out that corruption is a sine qua non of civic democracy in the United States.

Because most people don't actually dig around and find out what the person asking for their vote is really all about. They listen to what they say, without looking at what they have done. That's why so many people fell for Trump and his "I can fix it" bullshit, instead of looking at his history.

Note to my fellow Dems: The 2026 and 2028 elections will be "change" elections. But mere promises to change or talking points about change won't do the trick. Candidates need to embody change. They need to be the change we want to see. It's not about a position. It's about who they are.

2) We can all see that. And, bring back the focus on people's wellbeing to win elections. Culture wars and grievances aren't helpful. Divisions aren't helpful. Work for the high American ideals that we were raised to appreciate.

OOP New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!' www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...
Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows:

"In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis.

When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

Spent the weekend in mixed political company. We don’t talk much politics at these things but a surprising amount have admitted regretting their vote. What I can’t stomach is the “didn’t vote for this” crowd. You voted for this. People make mistakes. We learn by admitting them. Not gaslighting them.

Something I’ve picked up on in many years of reading statements of denial from people accused of sexual violence is that they often focus more on whether the victim is believable than whether the events occurred. Because those details tend to corroborate the allegations. So they attack credibility.

We shouldn’t expect Trump to moderate in the face of mounting losses - whether they be political (midterms), military (Iran), or policy-driven (courts) losses. A lesson of January 6th is that when faced with a loss, Trump becomes more extreme, not less - just like other aspiring autocrats.
