I live in Bury St Edmunds, I can attest to its reality. It's also a bit delusional as it is oftentimes abbreviated to 'Bury', which of course is a whole other place, that does also exist.

Glorious self-seeded holihock. It's parent plant/s were the 'halo' variety, hence the slight pale ring at the base of the petals. Beloved by bumbles here in sunny Suffolk.

A glorious honka-type dahlia in my garden. I didn't grow dahlias for ages as the double-flowers are not great for pollinators. However, the RHS and Gardeners' World said these types are OK, bonus of being later-flowered, too, so extending the season for our flying beasties.

Flowers on an un-named (to me) hoya in my lean-to. AKA the wax flower, because they sometimes drip a waxy substance when in bloom. The lean-to is my liminal place between me and the garden, so *almost* out in nature.

Being grateful is a key way to boost wellbeing. It's also pretty good for the people you say 'thank you' to, in this case, me! We have been members of #SuffolkWildlifeTrust for a decade and they sent us this lovely card and enamel pin. A small token of appreciation, much appreciated, thank you!
A photo of a postcard. The illustration is black and white. It looks like a lino-print. The image is of a partially curled (or partially uncurled?) hedgehog, its face and paws visible from an oval of spines. Next to it is an enamel pin badge, circular, with an image of a badger's face in the centre. In gold writing on a white background around the edge, it says 'longstanding member and Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
They are on a table cloth that is sage green with cream dots in a repeating pattern.

I do it too, acknowledging their presence, I think. Also, my dad used to stroke newly opened flowers and sing them a little 'dee-dee-dee' refrain, so maybe that's a bit of it.

I followed you on the basis of this post, stayed for the cat photos, and bought the books. I have never found caterpillars in my hair (it's too short for them to get purchase) but I have found a snail in my cleavage, another one in a glass of wine, and a worm in my turn-ups.

There are 2 community plots on my allotment site in sunny Bury St Edmunds, 1 hosted by a church, and 1 by a local mental health charity. In my home town of Bedford, there's 1 hosted by the Panacea Society. I also used to run a gardening club at a middle school here, and other schools had them too.

So that's why, in the UK, Mothering Sunday/Mother's Day has more prominence; it has a different provenance to Father's Day, and dates back further.

Jane Jennison @janejennison.bsky.social · 06/03/2026
Uk Mother's Day originates from Mothering Sunday, which was part of the Christian calendar and featured returning to one's Mother church. America founded Mother's Day (different date) and then all the other relatives were allocated days, too, to increase revenue from cards and gifts.

It's OK to read children's literature as an adult. There are social media platforms dedicated to the annual reading of The Dark Is Rising each December, for instance. About 1/3 of my books are children and young adult, read by me, not my kids.

A crocheted post box topper. There is a base in several shades of green, on top of which is a little bed with a crocheted blanket in stripes of blue, white and purple. There are three grey teddy bears (babies) tucked up in bed, and two standing at the foot of the bed. The one on the left is in a blue outfit, and the one on the right is in pink. There is a larger figure - parent or carer perhaps - on the left of the topper, and some crocheted toys surrounding,. Over the bed is a smiling yellow sun.

It's been a while since I posted about what I am reading, so here are 4 for the price of 1! The wonderful Louis De Berniers with a magical realism set in the future - a wonderful departure - & a trilogy about a family through t last century. All highly recommended. #Books #Reading #LouisDeBerniers
Photo of a book shelf with a close-up of 4 books by Louid De Berniers, a view of their spines. In yellow, Light Over Lisgard, then a triology. First, in blue, The Autumn of the Ace, second, in dark brown, So Much Left Over, and lastly in a shade of umber, The Dust That Falls from Dreams. The author's name is in white, in a cursive script, and the titles are in capital letters in a font that is different each time, but are pleasing together. They have the feel or Art Deco movie posters.
