Today, I was the closing speaker at CERT-EU at the European Commission. The conference had a steampunk theme, so I wore full steampunk garb to my presentation on The Art of Tempering: Pain Management, People, and Organizational Resilience.

James dressed in a steampunk corset and hat next to the EU flag. She’s also wearing a bracelet with watermelons on it in support of Palestine.

An attitude shift I recommend making in trauma recovery is deciding that you're not available for "maybe." If someone really wants access to you now, they have to be all in on the fact that certain sh*t from yesteryear was uncool-- & certain boundaries are non-negotiable now.

What I hope for folks is that we don't just bury it or move forward in denial. Some may need breaks/escape sometimes. Some may need to tangibly create somehow. We will need to feel our feelings sometimes. We will need to forge forward in the work & will need community, coalition, & accomplices.
