My friends have just left and I've got Swordfishtrombones on. All is good at Tringham Towers. Well, apart from the clearing up.

Had friends round tonight. It started out at port and cheese but expanded.

At the Albert Hall, Manchester for Rhiannon Giddens, who is 100% fabulous.

Watching an '86 TotP. The Communards ft. Sarah Jane Morris were No. 1. Bloody hell, it's a phenomenal cover. One the public got right. Highest selling single of the year, I think it was. Walk This Way was in the top 10 too. The song that got this clueless kid from Wolverhampton into rap.

I can confirm that Opheem was absolutely superb. Fresh windows opened as to all that south Asian cuisine can offer. Worth the two stars.

Well, today is Abba Voyage. A 5:50 start on a Sunday is very unnecessary, but hopefully it'll be a really fun day.

Listen up. I'm in Birmingham, with fab friends. Opheem awaits us this evening. I'll let you know.

Just watching The Stones do Moonlight Mile live in California in 2015. My favourite of theirs. They should defo give Mick T his writing credit though.

Just off my #WeeklyMusicCall. Mixed reactions for my 6, but I bookended them with brilliance. First was The Womack Sisters, who are worth the hype. My last was Don't We Deserve Some Kind Of Love, by Michael J Sheehy. Which is really, really beautiful. I was in tears www.youtube.com/watch?v=_azg...

I only got a brief glimpse of a big, mid-brown bird with a fan shaped tail, but I reckon there was a buzzard in the General Cemetery on the way home just now. Never seen one there before, though on rare occasions they do fly over south west Sheffield.

I saw a clip of a pianist with huge hands recently. In the comments someone referenced Oscar Peterson, who I think could reach 10 or 11 notes. But I can't think who the performer was, nor where I saw it. Irritating. I meant to investigate their playing.

Just finished an ancient bottle of port in celebration of the two purchases. A trip to Starmore & Boss is in order. Dregs of the old bottle were quite something, but I did think to decant it.

@andrewmale.bsky.social Hi. Played this just now to a musician mate. We have a weekly call of music the other doesn't know. We both raved about it. Fantastic writing, arranging, performing. Thank you. Now for me to check the rest of the thread.

Ticked off a bucket lister a couple of days ago. Drove through a speed camera at the limit, and didn't decelerate. That there be high order art meets skill.

In the days before playlists, I'd spend hours trying to track down albums with songs from the book I didn't have. Finding, for instance, a cracking complication called Don't Stop Doo-Wop, where virtually every track was in the book, was miraculous. Bought The Rainmakers' third LP the same day fwiw.

Dave Marsh introduced me to doo-wop, Van the Man, Big Joe Turner, Ray Charles, and genuinely loads of others. His The Heart of Rock & Soul is a fabulous book, even if his take can be baffling at times.
