This Holditch family portrait was taken by photographer William T. Furniss who is buried at Wardsend. I can't find anyone by the name of Holditch buried at Wardsend but I rather liked it and thought someone on here might recognise them.

1/2 A popular local travel blogger recently paid a brief visit to Wardsend and described it as eerie. I wonder how he would have described it yesterday as the wind stirred the trees and dappled light played across the stones; the scene alive with constantly changing light.

Another view of the River Don at Wardsend. This time looking upstream. Ducks ducking, dippers dipping and wagtails tail wagging. We regularly see kingfishers here too. So much more life beneath the surface.

Wardsend Cemetery opened on the 21st June 1857. This 1863 Edward Price painting, Sheffield and the Valley of the Don, shows the cemetery in its once beautiful location. Now, with its woodland, heathland and beautiful riverside location, the cemetery is a special place for both heritage and nature.
