Well, to my astonishment, I've just spent half an hour in the company of a bittern on my walk home. #bittern

Listen up, music-listening types. I came across this Korean gem on KEXP. Leenalchi. Strange, but very well done, and I really like it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhVi...

Melbourne (Derbyshire) church today, which is outstanding. Mostly Romanesque, and on the early side for that, I think. It also has a sheela na gig.

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 03/06/2026

Went to Fishlake church (St Cuthbert's) with Dad and my sister today. Cracking building, interesting village, superb Romanesque doorway.

Erm, got back from London by train today. Unpacking my case, I've found this in an outside pocket. Zero to do with me. Who on earth put it there??

The good news is that vinyl plus of the new @katherinepriddy.bsky.social album These Frightening Machines has arrived. If you don't already know her, you need to. Brilliantly written songs.

Our first main choir concert of the Christmas run up tonight. Here, the big Methodist Church by the Crucible. I'm doing a solo, and can feel the nerves course through me as I type that.

Just off a mixed #WeeklyMusicCall. A couple of duds, but also some very strong ones. Including, in the latter camp this, by Ellur. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wDS...

They were unbelievably good, The Platters. Some of the most sumptuous music out there. From my music call this afternoon, try www.youtube.com/watch?v=0N-u.... I really rate.

My sister Lucy would have been 53 yesterday. It's 30 years this time since she was killed, in a couple of weeks. A good deal more of my life than she was here for, but she is still one or three two of the main prisms through which I view the world. See you kid.

A pleasing fund in Oxfam yesterday. Charity shops here rarely have decent vinyl, but I'm v happy with this. 1970 reissue according to discogs.

This was not an instruction as to how I should be this evening, but was waiting on my seat at Seven Arts, Leeds. I'd gone to see friends in a show. Please can we ensure that every arts venue I attend henceforth should follow this. Ta.

You look fabulous. Here's one from the ark.

Watching this evening's Antiques Roadshow. A woman has brought in an autograph book from Live Aid. She's wearing a cap with horse ears attached. As you do on national TV.

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 22/08/2025

Here you go. I'm out for a fancy dinner tonight, but I'll make a start when I get back home tomorrow.

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 05/08/2025

Watching last night's Fake or Fortune. Out of curiosity, I was looking up the most valuable painting they've unearthed. This is what Google prompted me to look for?! I'd love to know the top two.

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 13/07/2025

That definitely earns a raised eyebrow. I think this was right at the end of the '80s.

A Lathkill Dale walk then an afternoon pottering in Bakewell today. Discovered Green Man records. Excellent stock. Could have spent hundreds.

I was over at Horton church, near Leek, at the weekend. We came across this pleasing headstone in the graveyard. I get the sands of time and the angel carrying a body. Not sure about the three bottles (??) on the left nor what the second right one is.

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 22/04/2025

Delighted to report that a house round the corner from me has put up a flag celebrating an unusual triumverate. This is the best of several photos I tried. You can just about make it out. I think.

My mate Dave suggested a trip to a record Fair in Chesterfield. Yeah sure, I said, but I won't buy anything...

Did some church spotting down with Dad this weekend. Including Ribbesford, Rock, Knighton-on-Teme. #HerefordshireSchool #Romanesque

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 15/03/2025

Oh, and Ribbesford has a Burne-Jones window.

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 15/03/2025

I went hunting for Romanesque carvings in Worcestershire today. Ribbesford and Rock churches, then the remains of the old Abberley one.

Just off a late #WeeklyMusicCall. This, by @katherinepriddy.bsky.social was my final pick, and I think it's utterly lovely. See her live. She's support for Suzanne Vega later in the year, which will hopefully help her reach a few more of you. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx1F...

Having finished Possession, this is up next. I think someone, probably on the old, hellish place, recommended it ages ago. I've long since forgot who. I'm hoping it is a Shakespeare link. One of my favourite Gervase Fen stories has them discover Love's Labours Found.

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 27/02/2025

Went to the Greystones tonight to see @katherinepriddy.bsky.social. Who was delightful, and really, really good. Beautiful, fragile songs about some of life's imponderables - like drunk calling your ex at 2 a.m. Uplifting. Even bought some vinyl.

051

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 13/02/2025

I can't recall which of you tipped me off about these. Maybe @katebevan.com?? Anyway, I remembered about them tonight, and so I'm going in.

110

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 03/02/2025

Picked this up yesterday. The sleeve is a bit battered, but I've been after a copy on vinyl for ages. Pleased.

030

James Tringham @jamestringham.bsky.social · 03/02/2025

By coincidence, I picked this up yesterday. He really was something. Do you know the cover of Sing A Simple Song he did with Sly and Chuck D? As strong a track as I can think of, by anyone.

A wide ranging #WeeklyMusicCall. Bob, & Lou. Lea Desandre being WOW on a Handel aria; another written for Farinelli. Plus barminess from Lotti Golden's Motor Cycle LP, and The Damned, bless 'em. A Bach concerto. But this John Howard track will last longest with me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHPr...
