Vicky (and Tom) is absolutely correct. The triple lock was a great idea as a short term measure to get the state pension out of the unreasonably low levels it was. But now we have to face difficult fiscal priorities, and there are areas where the money could do far more good.

Most millennials don’t think there will be a state pension when they retire so this isn’t being done with them in mind Pensioners will gain more from free social care than a linking rise of state pension to earnings Proud of triple lock in coalition but we must plan for future not venerate the past

Good. Iran has launched missiles at our base in Cyprus alongside hitting civilian targets in third countries not involved in the original bombing. We should be doing everything to undermine and destabilise the Iranian regime, so that the Iranian people can overthrow it.

This shouldn't be a question, and this also isn't something that the King should really get much/any say in. A fundamental element of the post glorious revolution monarchy is that when it comes down to it, parliament gets to pick and choose.

It'll be very interesting how the misconduct in public office prosecution progresses. The max sentence is life imprisonment. He should absolutely go to prison for life accounting for all the other stuff, and this should be used to Al Capone him

As a dedicated long standing Liberal Democrat member, activist and office holder I don't think there are any circumstances I'd go to the right wing press to slag off the party even when it's wrong, I would (and have) dealt with stuff internally.

Thames Water paid £1m-plus to corporate spooks firm part-owned by Starmer adviser
Exclusive: Hakluyt – formerly run by Varun Chandra – has been advising utilities company as it tries to avoid renationalisation A corporate intelligence company part-owned and formerly run by the prime minister’s business adviser has been paid more than £1m by Thames Water as the utilities firm tries to avoid renationalisation, the Guardian can reveal. Hakluyt, which was run by Varun Chandra until his appointment as Keir Starmer’s business adviser last July, has worked with Thames since 2023, providing political and strategic advice. Ah well I guess we now know why the Gov was so resistant to taking Thames Water into public control and why the Gov kept insisting it would involve massive payouts to the ownership.

The biggest issue with this was that he said he still wouldn't tell the Intelligence and Security Committee One of the big questions needs to be why they felt they couldn't tell the members of the committee (who are nominated by the PM, approved by parliament and have clearence)

They spent all morning on #r4today teasing the Grant Shapps interview (first place he's talking, I wonder why he chose the today programme) and it was totally pointless. Completely softball and let him dismiss any sort of democratic or parliamentary oversight without pushback

The absolute worst BBC content is coverage about themselves. They are usually overly critical but also it just has a weird vibe, especially when it's an interview of the DG. Should have just done more on the Afghan leak instead of cutting that off on #Newsnight

Superman is very explicitly idealistic liberal interventionism (idealistic because it isn't muddled by the reality of politics). In-universe chronically online leftists would almost certainly be crying about Superman being western interference and making things worse so don't get them cheering

Zohran is a good candidate and it's good he won regardless of the (v American coded) socialism. The solution for non-socialist liberal Dems isn't to reject the Zohran win, but to make it part of a broader coalition against shit ineffective Dems.

I fully support us expanding back out to air based nuclear capability. But rather than continuing to tie ourselves to the Americans, we should be working with the domestic military industry to procure it.

This was not "protest" it was breaking into a RAF base and damaging/sabotaging military equipment. That is a direct threat to national security. Conflating this with ACTUAL illiberal crackdowns on protest and abuses of counter terrorism powers damages the ability to fight them.

bliss 🔸🔰🌐 @jamesrbliss.bsky.social · 20/06/2025
The definition of terrorism has absolutely nothing to do with civilians and it's political illiteracy to not see how harmful this is to the pro Palestinian cause in the UK.

“We welcome the reported decision to proscribe Palestine Action. Their actions over recent months had become increasingly egregious, targeting Jewish charities and statues, and encouraging acts of violence and vandalism. Their forced entrance and sabotage at an RAF base was rightly the final straw.”

You can support Palestinian people with all your heart but this honestly doesn’t mean you must also support Iran, which treats women worse than any animal, and whose regime definitely shouldn’t have any form of nuclear weaponry. It’s really weird to watch people siding with it.

Nationalise it. Better than pissing more subsidy into foreign companies and at times like this we can't exactly risk losing a strategic asset like steel production, link it up with the need for increased defence spending. on.ft.com/3FEhbox

The Gov needs to urgently set out 3% defence spending immediately with a concrete plan to 5% that doesn't involve cuts to foreign aid. They need to bite the bullet and come up with tax changes and changes to the fiscal rules, it's the only option.
