"the “celebration” of BHM in UKHE can be accurately described as a pseudo-celebration that only nods vaguely & imperceptibly at something considered nebulously to be “Black culture”. But this is not backed up by an entrenched study of African history or engagement with African-produced knowledges."

Think I asked this a while back but it anyone has any reading on auctioning the goods of the dead in 16th- and 17th-century London, and/or the role of bellmen and criers around deaths and auctions, I'd be very grateful for recommendations!

This is all the more significant an exclusion as it speaks to an attitude that is against Romanies & Romani history The Renaissance saw laws that demanded execution & deportation based on Romani ethnicity. Renaissance Romaphobia began a successful process of ethnocide SRS think that's unimportant

Most of my adult life, my annual income has been under £20k, pre & post PhD. Careers are increasingly inaccessible - to the disabled, carers, people without support networks like family etc. And it's no guarantee of a better life now, gig work is hollowing out the middle class.

This post not only exemplifies what Romani & Traveller people face every day but it shows what happens when stereotypes are not challenged by research & policy It shows a 'Gypsy' stereotype that mixes Romani & Traveller tropes together and is currently promoted more than it ever is challenged
X post from London Voice saying: 'We need to talk about Gypsies.

No one likes Gypsies. Not even the most left-wing person on the planet likes Gypsies. This is because they start fights for no reason, leave mounds of trash everywhere, steal from shops, rob people, marry off their kids at 13, don’t work and are the most unfriendly people you’ll ever meet- yet have the audacity to accuse others of ‘racism’ for not liking them. I have never had a positive interaction with one, not once.

Crazy thought- Instead of spending £600,000 of taxpayers’ money on free stuff for these parasites, the government should use it to police areas where Gypsies reside to protect local communities. How about we protect taxpaying, law abiding people, instead of giving criminals free SIM cards.

I firmly believe we should imprison 95% of them. They are a scourge on society and provide no benefit to us whatsoever.'
