I very much hate-read the first quarter of the first DCC book, until the politics (qua Aristotle) of the text started to become apparent.

So better to say that we need to tax in order to control inflation, which is true and (as you note) motivating, rather than we tax to afford things, which is neither true nor motivating.

That response demonstrates a fundamental misconception about inflation that is as common and destructive as the misunderstanding people have about taxation and federal spending

jambera @jambera.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
Any leftism which perpetuates the myth that the federal government has to collect tax dollars in order to have dollars to spend is doomed to fail. As long as people hold to that misunderstanding, we won’t be able to have anything nice.

Instead of hearing about this and thinking “how dare he take 3 months off!” consider thinking that 3 months’ paid leave for inpatient depression treatment could be available for everybody if people like Rep. Tom Kean (R-NJ) chose to pass a law that said so

I did a large project on Williams’ score and you are accurately describing something that actually happened. George invited a bunch of his film school friends to see just such an assembly cut and they told him it was embarrassingly bad. 2 weeks later he had the score and this edit and they loved it

Hot take. 2026 does not represent America’s 250th birthday because the USA began in 1789 when the Constitution was ratified. This is America’s 237th year. The Declaration of Independence did not establish a country. It didn’t even end the war for independence.

The primary structural issue is that UNT gets less per-pupil funding than any of the other major Texas universities. The growth in international students had helped offset this somewhat. The voters of Denton county are not the same as the voters of the city.
