so according to the CDC, *foodborne illness* is responsible for about 930 deaths a year. "food-induced illness" is a made up term RFK is using for basically every cause of mortality minus suicide.

Fun fact — and reminder: For all their focus on “officer safety” and arguments about aggressive tactics being necessary, no ICE officer has ever been killed in the line of duty. It is more deadly in the US to be an elementary school student than an ICE officer.

Why would anyone want to memorialize Trump's 100-mile-long shit stain of a legacy? This could be the first US administration to well and truly collapse in on itself before the end of its term.

In a 2012 divorce deposition RFK, Jr. described cognitive problems, including telling doctors and lawyers about a possible parasite that "ate" part of his brain, and he used those ailments as part of an argument that his earning capacity was diminished and therefore alimony should be reduced. #USPol

Take it further. Trump will blame the GOP for his loss, and he's going to blame all Americans and take it out on us. That's why he's trying to blow as many holes in our ship as possible. He's a toddler smashing his toys. Our entire nation is going to suffer deeply for this senile, demented felon.

Respectfully disagree. The reason the right is having a collective and coordinated pearl-clutching is that a decrepit old man needing his Blubbering Blonde Binkie in order to psychologically make it through every day makes Trump look like the weak, pathetic, oversized toddler he is.

What will they do next?
Think of the worst thing they can do.
Doesn't matter if it's legal.
Doesn't matter if it's moral.
Doesn't matter if there's no precedent.
Doesn't matter if they get caught, as long as they don't get punished.
Why will they do it?
Because they can.

I worry about the narrative on this stuff because young people are so impressionable and not going to college is just such a huge mistake over your lifetime earnings. It’s deeply immoral to see Ivy-educated conservatives argue against college because they know they need angry, undereducated voters.

@robinsonmeyer.bsky.social at @heatmap.news points out that the smoke days we're experiencing were not foreseen by climate models & so nobody has reckoned on their cost in lives, health, & economic disruption—which appear to be MORE than EVERY OTHER climate impact PUT TOGETHER.
How costly? “When monetized,” a group of Stanford and Princeton economists wrote in Nature last year, in the first major study on the topic, “the climate-driven smoke deaths result in economic damages that exceed existing estimates of climate-driven damages from all other causes combined in the U.S.A.”

You read that right: The cost of climate-worsened wildfire smoke alone is larger than what earlier studies said every other estimated cost of climate change would be, combined. To summarize, wildfire smoke did not appear in our economic simulations of climate change. As recently as a few years ago, we did not really know that days like today — or June 7, 2023; or September 15, 2020; or September 9, 2020 — could occur. Then they happened. And happened again. And then we studied them and discovered that, in fact, they may be more expensive for the U.S. economy than we once thought climate change itself would be.

Graham's votes helped enable two disastrous wars, or was it three? He's been a shape-shifting BS artist who had no consistent principles except for buddying up to powerful daddy figures in the hopes some of it would rub off on him. Graham was the perfect example of everything wrong with DC.

At the very least, with our ridiculous gerontocracy, we need 100% transparency on the health status of these bozos. I can't just walk off the job for 4 days, let alone 4 weeks or 4 months, without telling anyone what's up. And then come back, and be like, "no, it's all cool. Where were we...?" WTAF?

Democrats: DO NOT TAKE THIS BS MEDIA BAIT. The voting public hates the establishment and wants outsider candidates. There is a LOT of good, new blood in the party. The occasional bad apple gets ejected quickly, and we move on. It's ok. It happens when you're building a new coalition. LFG!

Graph showing that the U.S. incarcerates people at a rate of 614 per 100,000. This is at least 4x higher than any other founding NATO countries.
