Yeah, that’s the Republican play: Run up deficits with tax cuts for the ultra wealthy and dumb wars. Then when Democrats have control of any part of Congress or the Presidency, Republicans are suddenly concerned about the deficit.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy — they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.

The most philosophical question I can bring myself to care about is: What actual breathing person and/or corporation is criminally responsible when someone’s AI agent robs a bank?

4 in 10 women (42%) delayed or postponed care they needed in the past year because of cost — including a third or more of women with employer coverage, Medicaid, or Affordable Care Act marketplace plans. Explore more findings from our Women’s Health Survey: on.kff.org/4y4XIn2
KFF graphic showing data from the 2026 Women’s Health Survey. The graphic is titled “Affordability challenges lead many women to delay needed care.” The chart shows that 42% of women ages 18-64 skipped or postponed care they needed in the past year because of cost; and shows the share of women who did so by insurance type: 68% uninsured, 50% individually purchased ACA Marketplace plans, 38% employer-sponsored coverage, and 34% Medicaid.

Also, much of the local pushback seems to be rooted in the knowledge that the other party can afford to offer more — whether it’s protections, taxes, etc. A pretty basic rule of negotiating is that if you want a better deal, you can’t take the deal that’s currently on the table.

Mostly I ask the question: Who holds the liability for failures? We have intricate licensure laws for every layer of the health care system, and those laws determine who holds liability (both financial and legal) for pretty much every action taken. Less so for AI, and that will need to change.
