A serious effort to detect fraud against Medicaid would not dump data online with no context. CMS itself indicates elsewhere on their website that in 22 states the underlying data that was dumped by the Trump Administration was “unusable” or of “high concern”.

Medicaid is certainly in the headlines now as a well-loved cornerstone of America's health care system. "Nearly all adults (97%) say Medicaid is at least somewhat important for people in their local community, including about three in four (73%) who say it is “very important.” @kff.org

How CBO views a Medicaid work requirement: Little effect on employment. Saves the federal government $109 billion over a decade. Causes 600,000 people to become uninsured. But, that assumes states pay $65 billion to offset federal cuts and maintain coverage for 900,000 people.

Key point: “Those cuts are floors, the people say, and Republicans will aim to reduce spending far beyond them where possible.” These are likely the reconciliation instructions so Energy & Commerce has to make cuts (mostly #Medicaid) of at least $200b but can make much deeper cuts if it wants too.

Even as the Trump Administration illegally blocks states from accessing federal #Medicaid funding, don't forget that House Republicans are now meeting in Florida to discuss their budget reconciliation plans to gut Medicaid through draconian cuts of $2.3 trillion or more (a cut of one-third).

St. John's Community Health, a network of community health centers in Southern California, has had nearly $18 million in federal funding frozen, the group's president and CEO, Jim Mangia, told POLITICO.
"We're doing the best we can to continue services," he said in a text message. "But yes, if this freeze is permanent there will be substantial cuts."
Mangia said the most vulnerable groups, including children and patients who are homeless, would be most at risk from the funding freeze - and said it put them and other providers in financial peril.

As Congress considers large Medicaid cuts, kids in rural Virginia have more at stake. In Fairfax Co. 22% of kids are covered by Medicaid but on VA's Southern/SW border (Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Greenville) (Lee, Dickensen, Buchanan) more than 40% of kids are covered by Medicaid.
