and the fact that the ps1 was so much less expensive and had music cd playback that was allegedly similar to multi thousand dollar cd players at the time, (at least the earliest ps1 units did) made the ps1 such a big deal. so if it wasn’t thanks to physical media, the ps brand wouldn’t exist today

here’s my take on playstation’s abandonment of physical media, the problem i have is that sony started development on the ps1 as a response to the growing CD market and the demand of an affordable yet capable cd based home game console (unlike sega, nec, the 3do, phillips or nintendo)
