It was lovely having @aleighmp.bsky.social join us during our most recent inspection of the Parliament hives. A chance to see Varroa mite control in #beekeeping first hand! Can confirm that the #bees liked him!

We just got our electricity bill for the month, now that we have a solar system with battery backup. This covers: - buying some grid power on cold, overcast mornings - running the entire house (all electric) - charging my partner's EV This is the end of winter, so we will be in credit from here on!

RIP to my home hive - last month they were doing OK, but this month they have suddenly declined and died. Almost certainly a sudden influx of Varroa mites from collapsing hives in the surrounding area, happening a lot lately 🙁

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a horseshoe crab watches as a variety of prehistoric creatures swim towards an ethereal light. An ammonite calls back to the crab, “come on, horseshoe crab! We’re all evolving!” Panel 2: the horseshoe crab stays in position and replies, “nahh that’s crazy” Panel 3: the horseshoe crab is superimposed in front of a future premonition: a rather miserable-looking human slouched in the glow of a desktop computer. The horshoe crab swims away and says, “good luck tho”

First spring inspection in the Parliament house #beehives - the pre-winter Varroa mite treatments worked well, we have six strong hives. Unfortunately the mite load coming in from collapsing hives is still very high 😬 Second round of treatments going in - Oxalic acid strips this time!

Instagram post from the official Muppets account: Few humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer he was unparalleled - witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew. Superb work from the #RBG #Melbourne to save this and other #orchid species from extinction. A fitting story for #LandcareWeek. There are so many "tree-changers" whose blocks may harbour native orchid plants. On our place, they've come up even in paddocks long cleared and previously grazed.
