I was fortunate to meet with representatives from Tongilmiraero, a Korean NGO promoting peace and unification of Korean Peninsula - visiting Australia on its 10th anniversary. It was inspiring to hear stories of young North Koreans risking everything for freedom and a new life in South Korea.

Another former High Court justice has passed away. I’m not sure anyone loved the law as much as William Gummow. He taught equity even while serving on the Federal Court, and was passionate about every fine detail of constitutional jurisprudence.

I was fortunate to get to know Mary Gaudron while working as an associate to High Court Justice Michael Kirby. The first woman appointed to the High Court, she was a trailblazer who loved life, mentored many and left Australia a fairer country. My condolences to her family and many friends.
