They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

werner herzog on AI filmmaking (from here www.indiewire.com/features/int...)
Q: A couple years ago at IDFA, I saw this movie "About a Hero," which is this partly Al-generated hybrid documentary that tries to recreate the atmosphere of your films.

A: The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, "You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It's phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it." He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it.
I said, "You are alone. There's such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail." And it is a failure, period.
It's so standardized that Al can step in because there's not real storytelling. It's mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome Al to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it's ad nauseam.
When it's ad nauseam, please, please, please let Al step in and do the job.

Father Dagon's Marsh 🐟 a throwback from Inktober 2023 when I tried out isometric mapmaking. It doesn't come naturally to me, but I'd like to attempt it again at some point, maybe for a D&D campaign. #art #fantasyart #ttrpg #cartography
An ink-drawn isometric map labelled "Father Dagon's Marsh." In the top left there is a rustic shack and a dock with a boat tied to it. Next to the shack is a pile of bones and a field with wriggling tentacles sprouting from its furrows. A figure in fishermans gear is fishing at the dock. In the center of the river is a giant statue of Dagon, the fish-like Elder God, surrounded by small obelisks. To the top right is a lighthouse with an eyeball at its zenith. In the bottom left is a copse of trees perched above the swamp, some of which have distorted faces in their trunks. In the bottom right, there is a vortex in the water filled with strange abyssal fish circling the deeps.

A bust of a decaying bronze dragon with many horns branching back from his head. His sharp bones protrude out of his chest and neck, and a green frill runs down his back. Behind him is a dark cave with stalactites and stalagmites. The frame around the bust is embellished with an illithid tadpole and a huge greatsword (Balduran's Giantslayer) at the top, mindflayer faces, Spelljammers, dragon-shaped sconces, and Wyrm's Rock Fortress on the bottom.A bust of a platinum dragon with huge frills down its back and around its jaw illustrated in storybook style. His scales and frills glimmer with highlights of yellow, pink, and purple. Behind him is a sunset sky with scattered clouds. The frame around the bust is embellished with purple flowers, sun motifs, and seven gold canaries.A bust of a copper dragon with small frills around his jaw and four elegant, swept-back horns. His scales and frills are a rich orangey rust color tinted with slight verdigris around his jaw and down his neck. Behind him is a sepia sky with scattered clouds. The frame around the bust is embellished with yarn-wielding foxes, orange flowers, ravens, violins, fishes with legs and trumpet-playing rabbits.A bust of a smug red dragon with a beak-like snout, large facial fins, and two large horns pointing backwards towards his back. He has an old but prominent scar on his jaw. The frame around the bust is embellished with orcs, wolfweres, and boars at the top, flames, and two-headed dragons spewing fire at the bottom.

"Devolver and its board are seeking shareholder approval to delist, believing becoming a private company is in the best interests of Devolver, its employees, its partners, and its Shareholders as a whole," a spokesperson for the company told GamesIndustry.biz.

"We’ve made an announcement about this.

Being private will allow the Devolver Digital team, especially the finance, legal, and executive team, to singularly focus on the long-term health of the company and less on satisfying the requirements of the public market, which have nothing to do with being a successful game publisher."
