I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said but this is an act of abject cowardice. All the endless hand-wringing about towers and concentrating development on existing rental areas, and when the opportunity comes to do something about it everyone except Lucy votes for the status quo.

For as long as I’ve been a reporter in this city the complaint has been that we build too many giant luxury condos in a few places and not enough medium density housing across neighbourhoods. But this week reaffirmed why that approach is so baked into the DNA and political culture of Vancouver.

Vancouver's Capital Plan draft is out, and we analyzed it (yup, all 232 pages) for road safety improvements so you don't have to! On the whole, it maintains the status quo - a state which leaves about a dozen Vancouverites dead and thousands more injured each year. It's not enough.

BREAKING: Mayor Ken Sim's ABC majority voted not to reduce speed limits on major roads, despite 93% of all road fatalities in Vancouver happening on arterials. This was one of the most important Near-Term Actions in the entire plan, because roads will never be safe until people drive at safe speeds.

An hour in, it hit me: I made that logo. 3 years ago with @mihai-cirstea.bsky.social and a few others giving me live feedback. Did I believe we’d have accomplished everything we have? Yes. Ending traffic violence is an idea that’s time has come. I just thought we’d have gotten a better logo, too.
