Here on the blurred borders of autumn, fields sing for their due libations of ale and blood. Demand the honouring of our old contracts with them. For harvest needs a balancing and fair payment. Take not corn saints and corn maidens till the tithe is paid. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #Equinox

Black and white photo of four kittens spilling out of a basket that seems to be partially full of hay. They’re all short haired, and there is a black haired tuxedo, two tabbies, and what looks like a white and calico. They all look grumpy and disappointed.

In today's writing of the talk ... because Hookland always has been #ReEnchantmentIsResistance:
The stories we intentionally absorb, the stories we select to tell ourselves, they allow us to live in the world differently. They allow us to make and remake the world differently.

Folklore is often the wild frontier of belief, the place where wonder may still live. We need this space. We ache for the sublime. Ache for it even when as Edward Burke said in 1765, its source is terror. Our need for it is there in Romanticism. There in the 18th century gothic novel and all that unfolded from it centuries later – whether in the stories of Machen, Du Maurier and Shirley Jackson or in Pete Murphy intoning: Bela Lugosi is dead. Beyond such dark splendours, we ache for wonder. For its territory of possibility, place we can become re-enchanted. That is why it has always been the core of Hookland.

For re-enchantment is an assertion of wonder and the numinosity of our relationships with landscape. Re-enchantment is an assertion of our collective ability to both imagine and experience better worlds. As a refusal of despair, as a lensing of hope.

One thing you notice about Hookland artists, they don't regurgitate flower faery propaganda, myths of the Bright Folk as benevolent. Their depictions have a sense of Faeries being creatures of fierce, dark glamour. Creatures it would be deeply unwise to piss off. – #MattAdams

Today's writing of the talk finds me angry, ranting about folklore, Mars and the lie of AI and attempting to curse Elon bloody Musk.
One day, when that billionaire class – as hollow of humanity as their beloved machines – flee to Mars, they will find they’ve unwittingly taken folklore with them. In all their scraping of our collective data, a phantom infection. The ghost soil will continue to be universal, even in Mar’s red hematite dust. Gremlins will sabotage their rockets. Their mad kings will know its terrors, know how it’s the place where our collective ache for justice lives. Folklore will be an imagined knife to their throats. It will be as a Pijavica chasing their bloodlines. Every rocket’s glare will carry it as ineffable cargo. I say this as promise. I say this as curse. I ask you to imagine it true for all at the bruised margins, suffering their greed for power and water. Say it as true story against their false narrative that we need their monstrous AI agents.
