But research is such a collaborative culture, which may expose more risk in working with colleagues or even research students whose values may differ in GenAI use for writing. I'm personally finding this is getting harder with the new generation of students who have had AI literacy pushed on them.

Colin makes a very good point. GenAI opens people up for accusations of plagiarism, and for academics whose career's are often defined by their creative outputs (new knowledge, innovative ideas and all that), this can be career-ending. Why would you take that risk? 1/n

Very timely read. A lot of these arguments apply to field biogeochemical research. My takeaway is conceptual understanding trumps fancy statistical modelling!

Just finished my first review of ARC grants as a detailed assessor. Feeling inadequate is an understatement 😅 - where/what/how do academics find the time to secure tens of millions of $ in grants?! Also, female representation = appalling. We need to do better when it comes to high stake grants.

If you want another tactic, highlight/write in different colour the first second and third priorities. Sometimes I have a couple papers under first priority category but I find it does reduce the overwhelm.

New publication in JGR: Biogeosciences on deep vs surface water CH4 dynamics in dugouts lead by amazing PhD student, Ryan Rimas! We found that a wetter year caused more CH4 to accumulate in the hypolimnion, but this did not result in a significant change in surface water CH4.
