Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 11/10/2025Spent my week sampling weirs and rivers in regional SE Queensland with my MSCN student. It was hot work, but some absolutely beautiful and truely Australian waterways. It's been a while since I've worked in flowing waters! 140
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 03/09/2025In a pseudo pond pollution experiment I had students undertake as part of their assessment for an undergraduate water science course @soaes-unisq.bsky.social, it was great to see how monitoring of simple water quality variables cumulated to multiple insights into water quality deterioration. 1/n 110
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 19/08/2025Currently marking some student poster assessments while on holiday as the kids nap, and am finding the visual results of their pond water pollution experiment very intriguing! In my second year water science @soaes-unisq.bsky.social, students conduct a backyard mini-pond experiment. 1/2 130
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 29/07/2025Celebrating a 100 citation (Google Scholar) milestone for my pub on N2O sinks in farm dams! Truly one of the most exciting datasets I've had the pleasure to work with and has profoundly altered the direction of my research. Still searching for answers! Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 23/07/2025Quick trip to Brisbane this week to attend the 20th World Lake Conference. It was a pleasure to be a part of the International Colloquium to explore global challenges facing lake systems. There was much agreement on including youth at all stages of integrated water management. 020
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 29/05/2025The day has arrived - first lecture for my brand new course, Catchment and Water Management. After many months and nights of work leading up to this moment, I'm nervous and excited to offer this course. Here's hoping the students appreciate it and there are not too many kinks to iron out! 050
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 16/04/2025How cool! A paper with my UofR crew has just been recognised as a #TopViewedArticle Artificial water bodies are interesting! Link to the paper: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... 0113
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 02/04/2025The students are now equipped with 7 sites worth of water quality data for their final assessment. I wonder what changes in water quality they will find as the rain consistently fell over the 3 days. The final highlight was all the amazing speakers of water professionals. 020
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 02/04/2025We explored the full water catchment system within Toowoomba. From water supply to urban streams, to potable and wastewater treatment, to farm creeks and irrigation, the students developed an appreciation for the complex challenges and societal needs that water managers face in today's climate. 130
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 02/04/2025Last week I had the pleasure of hosting our @soaes-unisq.bsky.social undergrad students studying Water Science during the WAT1101 residential school. In true Toowoomba style, the students had the full immersion experience, with consistent rain during the entire 3 days of our field tour. 282
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 01/04/2025Hi everyone Sorry if this person has followed you. But please don't follow this account. It's not me. I've reported the account 231
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 21/03/2025A visiting group of students from Northwest University studying agriculture and water resources spent a day doing water science with me. We made our own Secchi discs and had a lovely time out on the campus stormwater pond. Not much clarity today but the turtles didn't mind! @soaes-unisq.bsky.social 080
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 20/02/2025Sharing on behalf of my ex-postdoc supervisor Prof Kerri Finlay - two advertisements for graduate student and postdoctoral fellowship positions available at the University of Regina. There are so many amazing research questions within this long-term dataset to work on. 021
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 03/01/2025Lately I've been sketching out my scientific ideas and, just like hand writing, it's incredibly useful. Here, I'm revising an old figure for a new grant. I'm trying to conceptualise an example of time series data I'm proposing to collect to capture N2O source-sink shifts* *Obviously not to scale 060
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Aquatic science folks: Would anyone mind sharing a conference poster that presents some kind of water quality time series data? I'm developing a water science course where students will make a poster on water quality data they collect during the trimester. I would love to provide some examples! 247
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 07/11/2024Curious about emissions from aerobic rice? We tracked soil fluxes of CH4, N2O, and CO2 in temperate irrigated aerobic rice. N2O was a big deal and CH4 wasn't The case study is a first for Australia & highlights the need to carefully manage N fertiliser to reduce those “trade-off” N2O emissions. 072
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 23/04/2024Fellow #water #science peeps: what are the most important topics in water science/resource management that students today need to learn for the future? To start, I'm thinking the increasing reliance on artificial aquatic ecosystems, pressure of climate change, & managing polluted waters. Thoughts? 000
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 25/03/2024Beautiful day to be in the thick of it. Taking sediment cores to understand the carbon footprint of this swamp/irrigation recycle storage. So many fish that I tripped over a big one. Autumn is my favourite time to be in the field now that it's not 40C anymore 😅 050
Jackie Webb @jackiewebb.bsky.social · 31/01/2024My former postdoc supervisor, Kerri, is seeking graduate students to conduct research in aquatic ecology at the University of Regina, Canada.
