On Jacob Geller

I'm aware of the rape allegations against Jacob Geller, as well as the fact that his name is on a court-ordered list of UNC students disciplined for sexual violence. I've hesitated on whether to post anything about it, because the victim hasn’t been identified and I don’t want to participate in a retraumatizing conversation against their wishes. At the same time, as someone who has collaborated with Jacob Geller, I do not want my silence to be taken as endorsement.

For my part, I did not know about this and I wish I had. What justice and repair look like in cases like these are for the victim to decide, and I do not know their wishes or what accountability processes, if any, took place. However, strictly on a personal level, I’m uncomfortable having collaborated with someone who has presented himself as a nonthreatening feminist without ever disclosing his history of sexual violence to me or any other colleagues I’ve spoken to. I have no intention of ever working with Geller again. Beyond that, the person this happened to ought to be the ultimate authority on what happens next, and how they wish to tell their story if at all.

Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax. He won't be on content moving forward and we won't be publicly airing this week's episode of The MinnMax Show. We're in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.

Have you tried the quick brawl mode? That’s what really got me after struggling on and off with the main mode for a while

jess is right! it’s worse than ever for women in this field, and it was still pretty bad at our peak. im one of the lucky freelancers who has regular work (probably work more than i did at polygon!), and it’s still not a livable amount of pay. it’s pushing important and skilled women out.

In my experiences of abuse, men have always been complicit. I was sadly the victim of sexual abuse as a kid. You know who pinned me to the ground so she could do what she wanted? Her brothers. And yet I’m lucky enough as a man to not carry a daily fear of assault like women must.

I feel like I have so much I want to say but it’s just this incoherent ramble. But do you know how much it weighs on me to be the one woman on staff at GameSpot? To be one of VERY few women in the industry? To be one of ever fewer moms? To walk into press events and be the *sole* woman?

I am just so tired of women experiencing so much violence in this industry and then just being expected to keep working like nothing is happening

I'm incredibly nauseous reading this. Believe women, even when it's about a friend.

YouTube auto injects an insane amount of ad placements and you have to manually delete them. But you can’t usually delete them right at upload because they haven’t populated yet on the backend. It’s so awesome

been watching the floor for weeks and couldn’t spot @danryckert.com. We’re like five episodes in and have rewinded so many times thinking we spotted him. We’ve been watching the wrong damn season.

As a games media writer, this will probably be the biggest cover story I’ll write in my career. As a lifelong South Florida resident, this is the most Florida thing I’ve ever Florida’d.

Thanks to Mikhail Klimentov (@leadergrev.bsky.social) for bringing this story to us, having first been tipped off to Kotick's campaign against the press a couple of years ago. Since then he's become obsessed with tracking down the various legal threats being sent to journalists behind the scenes.

A still from the video, showing Mikhail looking into the camera.
