I'm really sick and tired of people telling cyclists that if we're just really nice then our lives will suddenly be valued

This is the thing. If AI is supposed to save you time for the things that Really Matter, and reading a book to your baby is not something that Really Matters, then what are you doing? These guys really just want AI to live their lives while they grind Kalshi and Polymarket all day every day.

no, she’s the wolf from a 4th or 5th century mosaic depicting the founding of Rome
The she-wolf who nurtured Romulus and Remus, depicted in mosaic form as a maniacal black dog with sharp teeth and white eyes.
My dog, bearing an uncanny resemblance to the maniacal mosaic wolf.

"Using gambling lines as information about the game" is what most of your uses are, and those are genuinely useful bits of information to understand what might happen in the game. You aren't discussing betting strategies or talking about the game only in its relation to the line.

Pittsburgh is like halfway in between the friend pairing, so the Great Allegheny Passage was an initial thought, but I'll look into the other keystone state trails too.

Montana would be annoying for travel with bikes (NYC and Indiana) but omg it would be pretty. Fuck yeah Montana state constitution.

I was unsure how Missouri was on the policy side, but I've run on KT visiting some family and it's really nice. It's not the easiest for (NYC based) friend to get to but definitely could be considered.

Today in American pessimism: two friends discuss meeting for a cycling trip, and need to figure out where has a closed to cars, minimal intersection trail and also would not be a problem for the trans friend to get medical attention if need be.

a) The Ferrari is not getting you anywhere better than a normal car in real life, it is just an expression of wealth while you drive the same roads at the same speeds at everyone else. b) Even if you could drive it on a track, it takes very particular (expensive) skills to get the fullest out of it

They're joy vampires for the kids themselves!

The whole speech is good, but this part in particular is particularly relevant now. www.trumanlibrary.gov/library/publ...
A screenshot of a section of the linked speech by former President Harry Truman:

I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign.

But when a Democratic candidate goes out and explains what the New Deal and fair Deal really are--when he stands up like a man and puts the issues before the people--then Democrats can win, even in places where they have never won before. It has been proven time and again.
We are getting a lot of suggestions to the effect that we ought to water down our platform and abandon parts of our program. These, my friends, are Trojan horse suggestions. I have been in politics for over 30 years, and I know what I am talking about, and I believe I know something about the business. One thing I am sure of: never, never throw away a winning program.
This is so elementary that I suspect the people handing out this advice are not really well-wishers of the Democratic Party.

I note that every time I note that young people generally prefer cultural things from their own era, and designed for them, some folks think that means I think they could/will never appreciate something older and/or I think nothing good happened before 15 or 20 years ago. This is, you know, stupid.

All this trans debate among the liberals is is a power fight between the left flank and the moderates who see no issue with whittling the boundaries of who counts as a person. That’s the entire fight. And it’s extremely shitty that they’re using a persons human rights as a bargaining chip
