Since I’d trimmed back the bushes and trees a bit last weekend... I put a pruning saw into my shopping cart at the big 'A'... And now I’ve got the fine tool in hand... Bring on the next zombie apocalypse... #Gardening

Join us today (Thursday 1 Oct) for #PalacesandGardens theme of #ItsAJungleOutThere Celebrate glorious abundance of greenery, architecture, interior decor and decorative features. Remember more is more! Bring on your maximalism! More ideas in Queen Sabine's fabulous poster below. #EastCoastKin

Poster for the #PalacesandGardens
photography challenge on Thursday, 1 October 2026, with the theme #ItsAJungleOutThere.

The poster uses a softly faded photograph of the richly decorated organ in St Catherine's Church in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany, as its background. The view looks upward into the lofty church interior. An enormous Baroque organ case rises through the centre and left of the picture, densely ornamented with dark wood, gilded carvings, sculpted figures and ranks of silver-grey organ pipes. Pale vaulted ceilings and reddish architectural arches surround it. The extravagant profusion of pipes, sculpture and gilded decoration visually echoes the week's theme of abundance and "more is more."

Large dark-blue lettering at the top reads:

#PalacesandGardens
Thursday, 1 October 2026

Theme: #ItsAJungleOutThere

The challenge invitation reads:
"Find your perfect jungle:"
Three suggested photographic subtopics follow:
*Into the Thicket
*Crowded at the Top
*The Jungle Within

Across the bottom, in very large blue lettering, the poster says:
"Everyone is welcome."

The hashtag #ECK appears in the lower-right corner.

The overall effect is warm, ornate and deliberately abundant: the elaborate historic organ itself serves as an example of the challenge's central idea-finding scenes where nature, architecture, collections or decoration become wonderfully crowded and exuberant.

A high-contrast, black-and-white photograph of a White-breasted Nuthatch clinging head-first to rough, heavily textured tree bark. The bird is positioned vertically with its body angled downward and its head pointing toward the lower right. Its sharp, straight bill points down, and its pale cheek and dark eye are clearly visible against a dark band across its nape.

My husband has the day off today; he just got off the night shift yesterday... The kitchen, the small hallway, the living room, and the study have all been mopped now... I’ve retreated upstairs to the sewing machine... My husband needs a hobby...

Auf einer nassen Fläche bin ich kurz mit dem Handballen gekommen und es ist dadurch eine Art Baumstruktur entstanden.

I briefly touched a wet surface with the heel of my hand, and a sort of tree-like structure formed as a result.

Good morning! Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BokehBirds - any bird captured with a soft, muted or blurry background, like this lovely Long-Tailed Tit. Bonus points for any bokeh balls! ☺️🪶📷️ Alt: #AwkwardAvian - any bird captured in a silly, clumsy or strange position! Happy Monday everyone! 🕊️ 👋

A photograph of a long-tailed tit a small, round bird facing towards the right. The bird has a fluffy white head and chest, accented by a broad, dark black stripe that runs over the top of its head from its bill to its back. A hint of soft pink coloration tints its flanks and shoulders. Its bill is tiny and dark, and its eye is framed by a faint yellowish ring. The bird is nestled among several bare, light grey tree branches that cut diagonally across the scene the one above slightly shadowing its head. Two prominent branches cross behind and below the bird, while a softer, out-of-focus branch arches over the top left corner of the frame. The background is a soft, blurred wash of light blue, lilac and pale buff coloured bokeh, with some bokeh balls from the bright, open sky filtering sunlight through the woodland canopy.

Last light on the Odle Santa Maddalena in Val di Funes. The valley went dark first and the peaks held on for a few more minutes. #EastCoastKin #Photography #Fuji #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #LandscapePhotography #Stunday #ColorADay #OrangeSun

A wide landscape at dusk. A clear blue-violet sky fills the top of the frame. Below it, a long row of jagged limestone spires stretches almost edge to edge, lit coral and orange by the low sun. Their faces are carved with deep vertical gullies, and pale scree fans spill from their bases, where a soft shadow line is creeping up across the rock. Beneath the peaks, steep forested ridges have already fallen into cool blue shadow, sloping in from both sides to form a V that holds the lit mountains. The lower third is bright green pasture rolling over small hills, dotted with farmhouses with dark timber roofs. Left of center stands a small stone church with a tall, pointed clock tower. A few animals graze in the field below it, a paved path curves along the lower left, and dark conifers fill the lower right corner.

The image is built in horizontal bands of alternating temperature: cool sky, warm rock, cool forest, then the green of the valley floor. The warm light on the peaks against the surrounding blues makes the rock advance and gives it weight, while the shadowed ridges frame and contain it. The church tower is the only vertical accent in the lower half, a small pointed form that echoes the spires above and ties the village to the mountains. The difference in scale between the two is the image's quiet argument: settlement small and settled, rock enormous and briefly lit.
