the way some people are would be a great bit, if only it were a bit and not just the way they are

I wonder how that view would fit with Christian groups that don't make claims like that. Like, I was raised in a church (though I'm not Christian at all anymore) and although we had confirmation to become an official registered member of the church, nothing we did was ever viewed as a conversion

itmustbemitch @itmustbemitch.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

If that's what they meant (which it really might be), I wonder how many people would end up being lifelong churchgoers but still "nonbelievers" by that definition for never having critically considered and made an active decision to be part of the community they were already in

itmustbemitch @itmustbemitch.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

I wonder what kind of a bubble this person must be in to think that "almost every" Christian is a convert. I just find that an interesting thing to believe

It's always been my dream to have a bench that says "in loving memory of itmustbemitch -- he's still alive, just don't want to forget him" and then when I die to have a second plaque put on the bench to day "nah he died"

Tbh I'm not sure it's guaranteed that it was the baby's dna; Samus figures it must've been at the start of Fusion but then goes on to learn that the BSL was a metroid breeding facility, so it was more likely one of those ones. (That said, those ones might all be clones of the baby)

The translation by Anthony Yu is the best option imo! I read a different translation in high school for fun and took a class on it in college so I'm no real expert but much more familiar than average haha. I also got a Chinese copy but boy am I not good enough at Chinese for it lol

010

itmustbemitch @itmustbemitch.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

It's kinda marginally not his fault in that there were no real standards for translating fiction in those days, but with the slightest bit of critical thinking and retrospect it's infuriating. Apologies to Sam though, I caught him in the crossfire 😔

itmustbemitch @itmustbemitch.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

Oops I flubbed it, it's Arthur Waley not Sam. He made the first prominent English translation of 西游记. He explicitly decided never to go to China so he wouldn't ruin his Orientalist preconceptions, and his translation just skipped parts he didn't like and made no effort to be accurate

itmustbemitch @itmustbemitch.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

More viable for some is the quicker masters in disgust toward Sam Waley

If you think about the rationals as pairs of integers is that double or half efficiency at thinking about integers?

That creator is always talking about stuff that interests me but in a way that sets me off. Every claim feels exaggerated to the exact minimum level that will make me think "hold on, that's a bit too far". If you grew someone in a lab designed to drive just me insane, you couldn't do better than him

Extreme bluesky energy to see a post claiming it's the "true shape" and for every commenter saying "it's not the true shape it's exaggerated x10000" there is an equal and opposite commenter saying that still counts as the true shape

The funny thing to me about the 10 commandments is that they're just the first 10. Maybe the most important, but the text itself doesn't really specify, and the commandments just keep coming through the rest of Exodus and Deuteronomy. They've got hundreds of those bad boys

030

itmustbemitch @itmustbemitch.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

I heard there's some evidence there's an older version of the Isaac story where he is actually sacrificed, and there's confusion across traditions about what was Isaac and what was his oft-ignored half-bro Ishmael. Sounds like part of the Bible was trying to rehab a genuine child-sacrifice tradition

Any game without a "thank you for playing" and/or "and you" at the end of the special thanks is spiritually bankrupt and risks damaging your soul if you play it
