Today #NIH leadership were told no funds can go out for research project grants, R&D contracts or training grants. We have just a couple weeks to get funds out the door before Russel Vought attempts a #PocketRescission on Aug 15. Even if this ends up being temporary, it’s time we don’t have.

I am one of many scientists who has been caught in this rollercoaster. Judge Young found the current gov’t actions against specific scientists arbitrary and capricious and said that he had never seen government racial discrimination like this in his 40 years on the bench. This has to end!

It took between 30 to 53 days for Hitler to dismantle Germany’s constitution. March 23, 1933: The Enabling Act allows the Nazi government to make laws without parliament. March 21, 1933: Hitler issued a decree making it illegal to criticize the government. Concentration camps followed.

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings. But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.
