Tebbit was one of the architects of Section 28 which sought to prohibit ‘the promotion of homosexuality.’ This law emboldened bigots and silenced many librarians and teachers, including some of mine. As a gay kid I was left without official support from my school. It was terrifying and cruel.

The cruelty is a feature, not a bug. Trump made this very clear in term 1 and it was either why people voted for him again, or it wasn't a big enough problem to deter voters. It was inevitable regardless, and so much of this could have been avoided if Biden had known when to walk away.

What good will this five years do if there’s no semblance of hope? I expected there would need to be difficult decisions, but surely there needs to be a rejection of Osborne’s prescription rather than a reinforcement of it. Nothing works and cutting what’s left just concretises the decline.
