Did three hours of CPR training at work this morning and then my brain and body agreed it was very unfair that I also had to do work in the afternoon

Went to the ice hockey derby between my local SHL team and our sworn enemies from another city in our region. We won, yay! But a bus ride home where fans of each team are singing their songs at each other and bouncing up and down is very loud, wow

I finished my whole dumbbell strength training program!!! Last summer I was near the end when bad life things happened & I lost energy for all non-work activities, but this year I made it all the way through, though I adapted the schedule so it’s taken me a bit longer than the suggested 8 weeks

Times are getting a bit tough on my end, and having some work lined up would help immensely. If you have any need of editing or sensitivity reading, please keep me in mind!

Please witness me, I did my strength training! I skipped it earlier in the week for reasons, and I really don’t want to fall out of my routine, which I unfortunately tend to do in autumn. So trying to give myself extra pats on the back for the sessions I do #exercise

Another Lake Vättern motif.
A drawing on grey paper made with waterbased markers, pen, pencil and coloured pencils. It shows a small sail boat on a lake on an autumn day.

I’m trying to create a better setup for myself to do pastel painting, so that I won’t have to take everything out and pack it back up every session, which currently is quite a hurdle. Spent tonight assembling an IKEA cart for my supplies.

One of my fave Swedish athletes, discus thrower Vanessa Kamga, won bronze at the Euros. She is like an injection of joy and power at all times, winning a medal clearly made it extra. (Such a pretty lady. And she also has a Swedish record in weight lifting.)

Silly little art:
A greyscale drawing of a tree at the shore of a lake under a cloudy sky. A wire fence separates the lake from train tracks seen in the foreground. Flowers grow in the grass between the tracks and the fence. Drawn in pen, water based markers, pencil and gouache.

For my Swedish friends, a petition against Google AI data centres in Sweden: Den 10 augusti samlas kommunstyrelserna i Timrå och Sundsvall för att avgöra frågan om Googles nya massiva AI-center. Dags att rädda elnätet från techjättarnas exploatering! » kampanj.skiftet.org/s/MyKXHPe8

Stoppa Googles serverhallar
Utländska serverhallar slukar energi motsvarande tiotusentals villor. Nu förbereds en massiv utbyggnad, vilket sätter press på elnätet och lokalmiljön.

Jarvis-dog had surgery yesterday to remove a small growth on his eyelid that was bothering his eye. Because he is old and has suboptimal kidney values, they sent him home with a couple of days’ worth of opioids instead of other painkillers. He is very adorably high as a kite in his cone of shame 😍

Now that I’m on summer leave I have time and energy to work on my drawing again. Still enjoying this “learning to make visual art with my hands in my middle age” stuff. Here is a drawing from my own reference photo of a bird I met a couple of weeks ago
A drawing of a white wagtail, a small black, white and grey bird, sitting on a wood railing against a background of green foliage.

I think this must be the knitted Icelandic sweater I got on a trip there as a kid in the mid 80s. Rediscovered it recently, and because 80s fashion was loose fitting, I can still wear it now as middle aged adult. And the wool is as new. Much tighter fit though 😂

In other devastating art news, I read @nghivo.bsky.social’s latest Singing Hills novella, A Long and Speaking Silence. Brutal & delicately tender, of and for these current times. Listened to the audiobook while walking round the lake & had to step off the path not to alarm people with my crying

it's the long, lovely, northern summer solstice! 17 hours of daylight, light till 11pm. for those of you elsewhere, there's Sing For The Coming of the Longest Night, @krfabian.bsky.social's and my weird-ancient, poly-romantic solstice novella www.generalist.org.uk/iona/books-a...
cover for Sing For The Coming of the Longest Night - dark background, silver text, single sprig of hollyThe world you know is underneath the substance of another, with cracks in the firmament that let the light of its magic in…

Layla and Nat have nothing in common but their boyfriend – enigmatic, brilliant Meraud – and their deep mutual dislike. But when Meraud disappears after an ambitious magical experiment goes wrong, they may be the only ones who can follow the trail of cryptic clues that will bring him safely home.

To return Meraud to this world, the two of them will confront every obstacle: the magic of the wild unknowable, a friendly vicar who’s only concerned for their spiritual wellbeing, and even the Thames Water helpline. All of which would be doable, if only they didn’t have to do it together.

But the winter solstice is fast approaching – and once the year turns, Meraud will be lost forever. As buried secrets lead to unexpected revelations, Nat and Layla must find a way to overcome their differences before it’s too late.

I am now on four weeks’ leave! This spring has been a lot at work, and I felt like my leave came very suddenly in the midst of a really busy time. Will probably take some days to turn the stress off. Been having this weird feeling all evening of “what if I’m just bored and restless for four weeks?”

Beetroot! It has this yucky sweetness I can’t stand (Because I come from Skåne, the southernmost region of Sweden, I’m compelled to say I mean red beets, because just beets clearly means sugar beets, which we grow by the fuckton. But you don’t generally eat those except in the form of, well, sugar.)

Since I was talking about him, have a poem by Harry Martinson in a not terrible translation by Robert Bly. “Dusk in the country”:
Picture of a poem that reads:

The riddle silently sees its image. It spins evening
among the motionless reeds.
There is a frailty no one notices
there, in the web of grass.

Silent cattle stare with green eyes.
They mosey in evening calm down to the water.
And the lake holds its immense spoon
up to all the mouths.

Explain your @ Isagel is a character in the 1956 epic sci-fi poem Aniara by Swedish author Harry Martinson, which I happened to be reading when I needed an internet handle. She is a pilot on a doomed ship drifting through space.
The cover of Aniara by Harry Martinson. It shows an watercolour painting in a simple style of the planet Earth surrounded by the blackness of space
