Ira Lightman @iralightman.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Goodman's magazine poem joins folk form: which draws chancy attempts at crafting. As did dud and hit originators of folk songs or tales. Good ones don't strive to dis-resemble, or beat, the rest. They pass, blend, and don't stand close study. Magazine "acceptance" spins the folk roulette wheel. 000

One reason I started Deep Cuts in a Lovecraftian Vein a few years ago was to help focus my reading and discover new authors, ones I might not otherwise read. Here are some of the women I've discovered through the blog. 627482

Ira Lightman @iralightman.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I'm sad to hear that Rachel Blau DuPlessis has died. I persuaded my local library to buy the two volume boxed edition of Drafts this year, and think it's brilliant. A real way forward for people who love long poems, sampling as it does the style of many other long poems. 181

The Drafts sequence is beautiful and rewarding and intimidating, and I’d encourage starting with Draft 85: Hard Copy 13511
