I have never seen a compelling economic argument for the existence of CEOs or owners that cannot be served better by cooperative ownership or management. The best people has is “well I get to do that/they started it” which is what a six year old says when they get caught fighting.

excellent example of why you should not fucking trust "AI detectors". wanting an easy, no-thinking-required solution to everything is literally part of the problem *with AI.* it is infuriating to see people who are supposedly on the human side fall for this shit. 👏 use 👏 your 👏 brain

Digesting this over the last few days and it's pure poetry, dripping with deep dark brumous woods faerie tale flavour on top of a nest of clever structures for sociological storytelling in a turbulent world. Both designers' strong suits shining through here. Cool, evocative, deliciously juicy stuff.

The Shade of the Woods
In a bluebell wood at dusk, a dark figure in a long black and tattered robe stands with bright glowing yellow eyes. On their head is a spiked crown, and they hold a long pollaxe low. Around them are tall trees blocking out any light, and a light eerie mist covers the bluebell-covered forest floor.

This. Plus, something I feel like is so rarely talked about when UBI is discussed is how it would make part-time service jobs so much more desirable. If the question is "just UBI and scrape by okay" or "UBI + a part-time job and I can take the kids on a vacation" then people will want these jobs.

🎂 It's my special cake and candles day you all have to be nice to me because it's been QUITE the year 🎂 So share some of my paintings??
In the pew-lined interior of a dim medieval church lit by rows of candles on tall staffs and pale sunlight coming through a window, a tall humanoid crow figure with flowing black robes and a glowing yellow eye stands beneath an ornately carved semicircular arch in Norman Romanesque style. On the wall surrounding the arch are many colourful murals depicting more humanoid crow figures with halos, carrying various items including swords, spears, harps, and chalices.
A painting set in a cosy shady woodland clearing on a sunny summer's day. In the centre of the frame, two figures sit on a fallen log mostly hidden by vegetation. The figure on the right has wavy blonde hair down past her shoulders, and wears a flowing white floor-length dress with long sleeves, with delicate lacework around the cuffs and neckline. She looks into the distance with a contemplative, sad expression. On her lap rests a small green book, covered by both of her hands.
The figure on the left sits leaning with her head against shoulder of the other figure. She wears a similar dress but simpler, and in a dark slate grey. Her hair is dark and straight, and flows down her tilted face, and she looks off towards a nightingale bird perched on a nearby branch. She raises a hand towards the other figure as if to get her attention.

Both figures are surrounded by various flowers. On the left of the frame are many spires of foxglove flowers in vivid pink and white, interspersed among green stinging nettles. On the right are the purple flowers of monkshood/wolfsbane.

Wrapping around the figures is a clear stream flowing from a distant pond that descends in a series of steps. Around the stream are many small mossy rocks, and shoots of dark green dog's mercury.

Above and behind the figures and flowers are two trees; on the left is a weeping willow with dangling dark green leaves. On the right are the branches of an old ash tree.A snowy scene in which a humanoid figure in long black robes with the head of a rook stands in a churchyard holding a long spear. By its feet is a red fox. Both are flecked with fallen snow. Around them are many weathered snow-covered graves. In the background is a medieval church of warm coloured stone with large rectangular windows and a battlemented parapet topped with pinnacles. Behind the main body of the church is the tower with clock face and belfry. Behind the church are tall but bare trees dusted with snow. More snow falls in the air.A snowy scene in which a humanoid figure in long black robes with the head of a rook stands in a churchyard holding a long spear. By its feet is a red fox. i'm so excited to announce that Possum Creek and all our full-time employees have become an imprint at Steve Jackson Games!
February 11, 2025: Welcome Possum Creek!
We are thrilled to announce that Possum Creek, the award-winning independent game publisher, has joined Steve Jackson Games as an imprint. Based in Philadelphia, Possum Creek is best known for Wanderhome, a pastoral fantasy RPG about traveling animal-folk. Wanderhome has won numerous awards, including ENNIEs for Best Family-Friendly Game, Best Cover Art, and Best Interior Art.

As an imprint, Possum Creek will still have full creative and editorial control over their titles. However, the Possum Creek team will also lend their talents to the SJ Games design and visual branding. Jay Dragon, Editorial Director at Possum Creek, will join our Board Of Directors and become our Lead Game Designer. Ruby Lavin will become our Art Director while retaining that position at Possum Creek.

What does all of this mean? It means that Steve Jackson Games will keep bringing innovative, exciting, and fun games to the tabletop gaming community – and that we have even more talented people to help us in that mission. We can't wait to see what comes next!

Everyone please stop arguing for a minute and listen to @margaret.bsky.social! #Solidarity is the only way out. None of us are perfect and all of us are needed. margaretkilljoy.substack.com/p/shoving-at...
I don’t know what works, exactly, but I know what doesn’t work.

What doesn’t work is the endless and obsessive search for the “one right way” to fix the world. There is no single vanguard who can save us, just like there is no politician or revolutionary leader who will lead us all into a bright, shining future. There’s also no single ideology–not even my beloved anarchism–that’s going to do it.

The Zapatistas have a saying that lives in my head, that they’re fighting for a world in which many worlds are possible. If we are fighting for a pluralistic, multicultural world, then we must fight for it in pluralistic, multicultural ways.1. our solidarity will be based on respect for a diversity of tactics and the plans of other groups.

2. the actions and tactics used will be organized to maintain a separation of time or space.

3. any debates or criticisms will stay internal to the movement, avoiding any public or media denunciations of fellow activists and events.

4. we oppose any state repression of dissent, including surveillance, infiltration, disruption and violence. we agree not to assist law enforcement actions against activists and others.

Our lords spent so long dreaming themselves gods, they came to believe it. As they would have us believe, as they fly beneath the sun on wings of wax. As they make a foe of truth, as their blades chip and dull against her armor. They may spill an ocean of blood, to learn no king may rule the tides.

One of my favourite things anyone has ever said about art. You'll be missed, David. 🌹
“Right here people might bring up Vincent van Gogh as an example of a painter who did great work in spite of—or because of—his suffering. I like to think that van Gogh would have been even more prolific and even greater if he wasn’t so restricted by the things tormenting him. I don’t think it was pain that made him so great—I think his painting brought him whatever happiness he had.” ― David Lynch

If the purpose of a machine is what it does, is social media often not the gamification of recuperation - a slot machine that pays out whenever someone finds a novel antibody against sincerity? A mechanism by which radical solidarity is safely dissolved into the alkahest of drama and point-scoring?

One of the most important things about EP Thompson's work that is not often noted is that he chronicles the absolute annihilation of English and Welsh working class and peasant culture. Literally nothing survived the industrial revolution - everything left is a partial Victorian revival.
