This thing is absolutely endemic. In @distractedelf.bsky.social's server we're getting up to several accounts a day joining and then blasting out this exact message in cold DMs, and a similar message in random channels. To the point where the word "versatile" has become a both a red flag and a meme.

Same! Went somewhere nice, saw roughly what I expected, but it was so incredibly awe-inspiring to see that weird unphotographable dimming of the sun in person, and fun to mess around with an impromptu pinhole camera, so I had a super lovely time.

The moment where it clicked into place was understanding that The First Session is the kernel around which the real game grows. The mechanics fit together fully in retrospect. Once you've created peoples and households and threats and rolled your opening season move, the RP just drags you forward.

Hot take: moral desert is a toxic idea that we all must urgently discard. It's a tainted soil in which only a pernicious moral sadism may flower: the belief that suffering is an inherent good, actually, so long as it happens to The Bad People. A weed that thirsts and grows until it consumes us all.

Could be that the most visible examples of freeform roleplay experienced in common by the most people (ie. actual plays) are improv theatre. Is it rarer now to first discover RP through RP as opposed to through mass media? To see the moon not in the sky, but in images of fingers pointing towards it?

That's what makes the scenario such effective engagement bait. It directly pits rationality (a society of identical perfect game theorists with no possibility of error always choose red) against empiricism (a significant portion of humanity always chooses blue, so a red victory is always a massacre)

This. Plus, something I feel like is so rarely talked about when UBI is discussed is how it would make part-time service jobs so much more desirable. If the question is "just UBI and scrape by okay" or "UBI + a part-time job and I can take the kids on a vacation" then people will want these jobs.
