This and the Lindsay Clancy trial remind me that some US states actively hate women. "Texas continues to face a maternal health crisis. The state’s maternal mortality rate exceeds the national average, and approximately 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are considered preventable." l1nq.com/z5opga1
Texas delays maternal mortality report as deaths in wake of abortion ban remain unexamined

Baker Institute experts, writing in the Houston Chronicle, warn delayed state report could hinder maternal health policy and leave critical deaths from 2022-23 unexamined.

Chalmers has been talking up trying to reduce the difference between how much wage earners and investors pay in tax. The Treasury did some research to show just how big the difference is. I cover it in my column www.theguardian.com/business/gro...
They found for example that someone who earns $150,000 through wages pays an average tax rate of 29% while someone who earns the same amount but gets a significant amount from non-wages pays just 27.5% because of all the discounts and ability to minimise tax – in effect paying $2,250 less in tax just because they were able to game the system:

Chart showing this is below.

Compare the pair. The Oz media doesn’t seem to care what ordinary Aussies want or need. And they care less about the tenets of good journalism, like honestly, accuracy and fairness. Oh well, as long as their team wins, I guess.
On the left we have yesterday’s budget headlines.
‘Your capital, his gain’
‘The Jim Reaper’
‘Chalmers bursts Boomers’ bubble’
‘Wave goodbye to tax breaks’
‘Chalmers’ budget. From landlord paradise to clever country?’
On the right, the reaction to a Conservative budget from ScoMo.
‘Ute beauty’
‘Full strength recovery’
‘Election Injection’
‘Rebuild of dreams’
‘Superspender event’
‘It’s all about that bass’

My view crossing the footbridge near the entrance to my building. Don’t let anyone tell you that suburban universities are anything but amazing. It looks like a creek but it’s called The Moat and there’s an urban myth about a certain male body part being retrieved from the murky depths. 😀
The view crossing the footbridge into my building at work. The centre of the image looks like a creek with tallish trees on the left-hand side. There are dead branches sticking out so it doesn’t appear to be very deep. On the right-hand side is long, green grass and other small shrubs with a pathway that has a metal railing to protect walkers from falling in.
You can see the reflection of the sun in the water’s surface and at the top of the frame is a hint of bright blue sky with a fluffy white and grey cloud.
The creek is dark greeny-brown because it’s not actually a creek. We call it the Moat but I think it’s some kind of water reticulation system.
